Google Photos finally allows changing video playback speed

Some features are so basic that their absence can be incredibly frustrating for users. The inability to change video playback speed in Google Photos, which the community had been requesting for years, was precisely one such feature. Google has now finally listened to these pleas and has started rolling out the feature on Android.

Five speeds to choose from

The new feature offers five playback speed levels: 0.25×, 0.5×, 1× (original), 1.5×, and 2×. You’ll appreciate slowing down when analyzing sports footage or details that you might miss at normal speed. Conversely, speeding up is useful for long videos that you just want to quickly skim through.

Control is simple. Just open a video, tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner, and select Playback speed. The selected speed is applied immediately and will remain set for the next playback of that video.

iOS and web are still waiting

Google has not yet confirmed a release date for iOS or the web version of the service. Given that this is one of the most requested features, a gradual rollout to all platforms can be expected. However, the company has not disclosed exactly when this will happen.
