Last November, Google launched direct file sharing to Apple devices, but support was limited to the new flagship Pixel 10 series. Now the situation is changing – the Quick Share service’s ability to work with AirDrop is officially coming to Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, the mid-range Pixel 9a model is not yet included.

How it works

The principle remains the same as with Pixel 10. An iPhone, iPad, or Mac owner must activate the mode in AirDrop settings to make the device visible to all nearby users for 10 minutes. The Pixel will then display available Apple devices in the Quick Share menu, and the transfer will occur directly peer-to-peer – without servers, without intermediaries, without data storage.

According to Google, the update is rolling out gradually in several phases, so it may not reach you immediately. For proper functionality, you need to have the Quick Share Extension installed, which you can find in your system settings.

Do you have a Pixel 9? Have you tried the feature yet?
