The Google Pixel Buds 2a headphones have only been on the market for a few months, but it already seems that Google is preparing to expand their offering. Official images of two previously unannounced color variants have appeared online, which should complement the existing Hazel (black) and Iris (purple) versions. So, if the current color palette doesn’t suit you, you might soon get what you’re looking for.

Fog and Berry: Light Gray and Pink

The new color variants will likely be named Fog and Berry, which corresponds to the expected colors of the upcoming Pixel 10a phone. In practice, these are light gray and a striking pink color. The Berry pink variant, in particular, will certainly not be for everyone – it’s a rather vibrant shade that immediately catches the eye. However, if you prefer more noticeable accessories, it might appeal to you.

From a design perspective, nothing changes. The charging case for both variants will be white on the outside, while the interior will be matched to the same shade as the headphones themselves – either light gray or pink. The price should remain at 129 dollars, which in the Czech Republic corresponds to the current amount of 3,690 CZK.

When can we expect the new colors?

Google has not yet confirmed the exact launch date, but speculation points to February or March. The ideal opportunity would be a presentation alongside the upcoming Pixel 10a phone. The Google I/O 2026 conference, on the other hand, is too far away, so we should expect the new colors considerably sooner.

What Pixel Buds 2a Offer

Let’s recall what the headphones can do. Pixel Buds 2a are powered by the Google Tensor A1 chip and feature active noise cancellation with Silent Seal 1.5 technology. They also include a transparency mode, Bluetooth 5.4 support, and IP54 certification (the case has IPX4). Google also emphasizes an ecological approach – the headphones contain at least 41% recycled materials, and the packaging is entirely plastic-free.

As for battery life, the manufacturer states up to 10 hours of listening without ANC and 7 hours with active noise cancellation. With a charged case, you get a total of 27 hours.

My Testing Experience

I had the opportunity to thoroughly test the Pixel Buds 2a, and I must say that they are solid mid-range headphones that finally filled a gap in Google’s portfolio. The design, inspired by the more expensive Buds Pro 2, is successful – the headphones are small, light, and fit comfortably in the ear thanks to the silicone stabilizer.

Active noise cancellation works exactly as I would expect when traveling by public transport or walking around the city. It’s worse with the transparency mode, which suffers from noticeable hiss and doesn’t reach the quality of the flagship Buds Pro 2. When talking with friends, I didn’t feel like I didn’t have headphones in my ears at all – which I can say for the more expensive model.

What disappointed me about the Pixel Buds 2a is the controls. Although the touch surfaces are large and gestures work reliably, you cannot adjust the volume from the headphones. Buds Pro 2 respond to swiping, but the ‘a’ model simply lacks this option. Moreover, you cannot customize individual gestures according to your own preferences.

The sound quality in the basic settings seems somewhat dull, but after adjustments in the equalizer (weakening mids, boosting bass and treble), you get a very solid output. It’s a shame that Google only supports AAC and SBC codecs – don’t look for aptX or LDAC.

Who are Pixel Buds 2a suitable for?

Pixel Buds 2a are an ideal choice for Google Pixel phone owners looking for a more affordable alternative to the flagship Buds Pro 2. For 3,690 CZK, you get headphones with functional ANC, Gemini assistant integration, and decent battery life. However, you must come to terms with the absence of wireless charging for the case and limited control options.

If the existing Hazel and Iris colors don’t appeal to you, the new Fog and Berry variants might be the right reason to buy.
