A terabyte of data on a keychain. The Seagate Ultra Compact SSD 1TB is on Alza for 3,219 CZK — down from the original 4,599 CZK. For that money, you get an SSD the size of a regular flash drive, which reads and writes at speeds up to 1,000 MB/s, weighs 24 grams, and connects directly via USB-C without a cable. A rating of 4.8 out of 5 on Alza speaks for itself.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you need fast portable storage for travel — photo backups, 4K videos, work files — and don’t want to carry a cable or a large drive.
⚠️ Consider that direct USB-C connection means the drive protrudes from the port — this can be impractical for some devices. For older USB-A, you need an adapter.
💡 For 3,219 CZK you get a 1 TB SSD, 1,000 MB/s, IP54, drop resistance from 3 meters, 3 years warranty, and Seagate Rescue data recovery service.

Why not a regular flash drive

A regular 1TB USB flash drive writes at speeds of 30–100 MB/s. The Seagate Ultra Compact SSD handles 1,000 MB/s read and write — you can transfer a 4K movie in a few seconds. Dimensions are 18 × 67 × 9 mm and it has a rubberized surface with anti-slip treatment. It also features IP54 dust and splash resistance, plus survival of a 3-meter drop. It works with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, PlayStation, and Xbox. The package also includes 6 months of Mylio Photos and Dropbox Backup, plus the Seagate Toolkit backup tool.

What to expect

The drive plugs directly into the USB-C port — no cable, but also no flexibility in placement. It works great with a tablet or phone, but with a laptop that has the port on the wrong side, it might be inconvenient. A USB-A adapter is not included in the package. And one user measured a real speed of around 850 MB/s — still significantly more than anything else of this size.

How do you handle data transfer on the go — flash drive, cloud, or external SSD?
