Great result! The new Pixel surpassed iPhone in an unexpected discipline

  • Google Pixel 10 Pro lasted 7 hours and 1 minute in a battery test, which is 45 minutes longer than iPhone 16 Pro
  • The key to success is the new Tensor G5 chip manufactured by TSMC instead of Samsung
  • In the test, the Pixel beat not only the iPhone but also the Samsung Galaxy S25 by a full 40 minutes

For many years, one iron rule applied: want superb endurance from a flagship? Buy an iPhone. Apple managed to squeeze more energy from smaller batteries than anyone else, while Google with its Pixels struggled somewhere in the back, dealing with overheating. However, a fresh endurance test by YouTuber Ben Aboagye from the Lover of Tech channel shows that the tables might have finally turned.

The Pixel 10 Pro lasted 7 hours and 1 minute of intensive use, while the iPhone 16 Pro shut down after just 6 hours and 15 minutes.

How was the test conducted? Fairly, but demanding

Ben Aboagye is no amateur – he has been refining his tests for years and strives for maximum objectivity. All three phones (Pixel 10 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, and Galaxy S25) ran on mobile data from the same British operator, Wi-Fi was turned off, and display brightness was calibrated to 200 nits.

What did the phones do? They recorded 4K video, scrolled through TikTok and Instagram Reels, played YouTube, streamed music, and finally played games. In short, a simulation of normal, but intensive use. No laboratory conditions, no synthetic benchmarks – just the real world.

Important detail: all phones had a minimal number of charging cycles, so battery degradation did not play a role.

Results no one expected

Let’s break it down by individual phones:

iPhone 16 Pro finished last with a time of 6 hours and 15 minutes. Although it has the smallest battery (3,582 mAh), the A18 Pro chip manufactured with a 3nm process should be extremely power-efficient. Ben noted that the iPhone “punched above its weight class” given the small battery, but it wasn’t enough for a win.

Samsung Galaxy S25 lasted 6 hours and 20 minutes. Five minutes more than the iPhone, but still far behind the Pixel. And it has a larger battery than Apple.

Google Pixel 10 Pro dominated with a time of 7 hours and 1 minute. When it reached 8%, the test continued with the demanding game Asphalt, where the phone eventually shut down during loading. That’s 45 minutes more than the iPhone and 40 minutes more than the Galaxy.

Why is this so important? TSMC instead of Samsung

This result isn’t just about boasting numbers. It’s proof that Google has finally solved the Achilles’ heel of its Tensor chips – poor energy efficiency. Previous generations of Tensor chips suffered from overheating and rapid battery drain because Samsung manufactured them using its less-than-ideal process.

The Tensor G5 in the Pixel 10 is the first to be manufactured by TSMC on its 3nm process – just like Apple’s chips. And the result? Not only did the Pixel last longer, but according to the test, it didn’t even overheat under heavy load. This is a huge step forward.

Of course, this is just one test, and everyone uses their phone differently. Some scroll Instagram all day, others play games, others just make calls. But the methodology was fair, and the result was clear – the Pixel 10 Pro has the best endurance of the tested trio, despite still having by far the lowest computational power on paper.

What do you think of the test results?
