Huawei FreeBuds Neo leaked even before its premiere. They will get a shorter stem and attractive features

Huawei is preparing to add new wireless headphones to its lineup, and according to a leak, it’s really leaning into the design. The Huawei FreeBuds Neo are expected to get a noticeably shorter stem, vibrant colors, and features that would quite suit a price tag around 3,200 CZK.

Design with a shorter stem

You’ll notice the most striking change at first glance. According to a leak from Winfuture, the manufacturer is opting for a significantly shorter stem and a more rounded, slightly more compact case than the more expensive FreeBuds Pro 5. The earbuds with silicone tips are thus closer to Apple AirPods Pro than to the brand’s older headphones.

Additionally, they are reportedly set to arrive in a range of vibrant colors, through which the manufacturer will target a younger audience and mobile gaming fans. However, renders of other color variants are not yet available.

What will the earbuds offer in terms of sound?

Sound in each earbud is expected to be handled by an eleven-millimeter dynamic driver with a frequency range from 20 Hz to 40 kHz. The headphones will connect to a phone via Bluetooth 6.0 and, in addition to common SBC and AAC codecs, are also expected to support Sony’s Hi-Fi LDAC codec, which transmits music in higher quality. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is also a given.

For calls, Huawei has reportedly implemented three microphones and a dedicated Voice Processing Unit (VPU), which is designed to use artificial intelligence algorithms to extract your voice from ambient noise during calls, video calls, and meetings.

Battery life will be excellent

Battery life looks above average on paper. Without ANC enabled, the earbuds are expected to play music for up to 10 hours; with noise cancellation on, battery life drops to 6.5 hours. For calls, it’s estimated at six and five hours, respectively. With the charging case, total battery life is expected to reach up to 40 hours without ANC, or 24 hours with it.

This is made possible by a 60mAh battery in each earbud and a 460mAh battery in the case. According to the leak, each earbud weighs only 4.8 grams. The entire body is made of plastic and is expected to carry IP55 certification – meaning the headphones are resistant to sweat and rain and largely resistant to dust.

Price and availability: When will they be unveiled?

The premiere is expected to take place on September 2 at the Chase the Wild event in Munich, coinciding with the IFA trade show, where Huawei is also preparing to unveil the Watch GT 7 and Watch D3 smartwatches. The FreeBuds Neo are expected to start at 129 euros in Europe, which is approximately 3,200 CZK. Whether and for how much they will enter official Czech sales is not yet clear.
