Can’t stand earplugs, and over-ear headphones are impractical at work? Huawei FreeClip 2 solve exactly this problem. They clip onto the ear like an earring, don’t cover the ear canal, and you hear music and your surroundings simultaneously. Ideal for people who need to be aware of their environment.

Who it’s for

One customer put it perfectly: “At work, I need to hear what my machines are doing, and I like to dance around them. I can’t stand earplugs, and over-ear headphones are useless here.” The open design of FreeClip 2 is a compromise between music and environmental awareness – in the office, you’ll hear a colleague, on the street, a car, and while running, other runners.

A weight of 5.1 grams per earbud means you practically don’t notice them. The liquid silicone C-bridge adapts to the shape of the ear thanks to a shape-memory alloy. Unlike behind-the-ear headphones, they don’t interfere with glasses.

Head Control

The most interesting feature: you answer a call by nodding your head, and reject it by shaking your head. “Nod – call answered. Shake your head – reject. You don’t have to check which earbud is left, which is right,” describes a satisfied customer. The headphones automatically recognize which one is on which ear.

Classic gesture control also works: double tap for pause, triple tap to skip a track, slide along the earbud to change volume. However, one customer points out: “Sometimes the rear touch area doesn’t respond to volume increase.”

Sound of Open-Ear Headphones

Let’s be realistic: an open design has physical limits. Bass won’t be like with earplugs, and there’s no isolation from the surroundings. An experienced user who has tried competitors from TOZO, Soundcore, Shokz, and Sony, rates them: “Some have better sound, but with these, it’s a superiority in individual aspects. It almost seems like a miracle how they’ve tuned them.”

The 10.8 mm dual-diaphragm driver and NPU AI processor ensure clear sound even during calls. Adaptive volume automatically increases in noisy environments. The reverse sound wave system directs sound directly into the ear and minimizes leakage to the surroundings.

Battery Life and Durability

9 hours on a single charge, a total of 38 hours with the case. Fast charging provides 3 hours of listening in 10 minutes. IP57 means resistance to sweat and short-term immersion in water – they’ll survive a shower, but don’t go swimming with them.

Bluetooth 5.4 with simultaneous connection to two devices allows seamless switching between phone and computer. The range is above average, according to customers.

FreeClip 2 are new to the Czech market, originally for 4,999 CZK and now with code ALZADNY10 for 4,499 CZK. The rating of 4.8 out of 5 from the first five customers is promising. These are not headphones for audiophiles or for people who want isolation from their surroundings. They are for those who need to hear the world around them while also having music or calls. For this specific purpose, according to reviews, they are among the best on the market.

Do you use open-ear headphones, or do you prefer isolation from your surroundings?
