Is this the most interesting tablet of 2025? RedMagic Astra tempts with an OLED display and Snapdragon 8 Elite, the price will surprise you

Nubia, which includes the gaming division RedMagic, has officially unveiled its new gaming tablet for global markets. The RedMagic Astra (sold in China as Tablet 3 Pro) offers a compact body with a 9.06″ OLED display and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It comes with a range of premium features aimed at mobile gamers, but also with a relatively favorable price. Can this compact gaming tablet shake up the market?

Exceptional display and premium design

The biggest advantage of the new RedMagic Astra is undoubtedly its display. Unlike competitors who often use LCD panels in tablets, RedMagic opted for a 9.06″ OLED panel with a resolution of 2,400 × 1,504 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display offers a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, add to that a peak brightness of 1,600 nits and PWM dimming at a frequency of 5,280 Hz for eye protection, and you have one of the best displays in the Android tablet segment.

The tablet’s design is purposefully focused on gaming use. The body is made of aerospace-grade aluminum and has uniform bezels just 4.9 mm thick around the entire display. On the back, you’ll find a transparent glass panel that reveals the active cooling – one of the other selling points of this device. The tablet is available in two color variants – Eclipse (black) and Starfrost (silver).

Gaming performance and advanced cooling

At the heart of the tablet is the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is currently still the most powerful chipset for Android devices, and in the context of the price, this configuration seems almost unbelievable. Combined with up to 24 GB of LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.1 Pro storage with a capacity of up to 1 TB, the tablet has enough power for any game. The manufacturer even boasts that the tablet can run popular games at maximum frame rates – Minecraft at 165 fps, League of Legends: Wild Rift at 144 Hz, and titles like Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, and Genshin Impact at 120 fps.

To ensure the tablet can handle long gaming sessions without overheating, it features an advanced 13-layer ICE-X cooling system. This combines Liquid Metal 2.0 technology, a dual vapor chamber, and a high-speed fan.

It rotates at a speed of up to 20,000 revolutions per minute and, according to the manufacturer, reduces the chipset temperature by up to 8 °C and improves cooling efficiency by 28%. The fan’s RGB backlighting may not add any extra fps, but many might find it appealing.

Battery life and connectivity

For long gaming sessions, the tablet is equipped with an 8,200 mAh battery, which, according to the manufacturer, lasts up to 5.5 hours of playing demanding titles (tested on Honkai: Star Rail). For fast charging, the tablet supports 80W charging, which can charge the battery from 0 to 50% in 20 minutes. A full charge then takes approximately 71 minutes. However, be aware that the 80W charger is not included as standard and must be purchased separately, or obtained as part of the pre-order promotion.

In terms of connectivity, the tablet offers a USB-C port of the 3.2 Gen 2 standard, which allows connecting external displays with a resolution of up to 8K at 60 Hz or 4K at 144 Hz. The tablet features stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra 3D technology and dual linear motors for haptic feedback.

Price and availability

The RedMagic Astra will be globally available from July 16, 2025 at a base price of 499 € (approximately 12,300 Kč) for the model with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. However, the manufacturer is launching a pre-order promotion between July 10 and 15, during which you can get a discount voucher reducing the price to 469 € (approx. 11,500 Kč). In addition, you will receive an 80W charger and gaming finger sleeves for free.

The tablet will be available in the following configurations:

• Eclipse (black): 12/256 GB, 16/512 GB, 24 GB/1 TB

The RedMagic Astra will be available in markets in North America, Europe, the UK, Asia, and the Gulf countries. Based on previous experience, it is unlikely to be available directly in the Czech Republic, but it will be possible to purchase it from the official e-shop, which offers shipping to our region.
