When Samsung introduced its first “triple-folding” phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, with a 10-inch display and a price tag of over 60,000 Czech crowns (CZK) in conversion, it was clear that it was more of a technological demonstration than a mass-market product. However, no one expected its lifecycle to be so short – just three months after its launch, Samsung officially confirmed the discontinuation of sales.

End first in Korea, then everywhere else

A Samsung spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold will first be discontinued in the domestic Korean market, and subsequently in the USA once remaining stock is sold out. Samsung’s online store already lists the phone as “sold out” with no indication of further replenishment. Interested parties can try their luck at physical Samsung Experience Stores, where a few units are reportedly still available.

According to the Korean server Dong-A Ilbo, Samsung has sold only 6,000 units in Korea since its December launch. Stock was replenished only in small batches every few weeks and regularly sold out within minutes.

Why so soon?

Behind the discontinuation are high production costs, which, combined with rising component prices, made it impossible to achieve profit. Samsung had, from the beginning, announced that it would be a limited edition without ambitions for mass success. The company also confirmed that it is not currently working on a successor – thus, the triple-folding phone will remain a unique experiment primarily intended to demonstrate that Samsung can manufacture such a phone.
