While Android 17 is still in its beta phase, Xiaomi is already working on the next generation of its operating system. The first leaks concerning the HyperOS 4 overlay have appeared on the Chinese social network Weibo, suggesting that we can once again look forward to interesting changes.

New Look with Leica’s Signature

According to an informant going by the nickname Smart Pikachu, the HyperOS 4 user interface is set for a significant visual transformation. While extra details are still missing, the leak mentions a departure from the current design language towards a more modern and unified look.

An interesting new feature is expected to be the integration of Leica’s color palette directly into the system interface. Until now, the collaboration with the German optics manufacturer was primarily evident in the Camera app and its filters. Now, Leica’s characteristic color scheme should extend to the entire operating system. However, the specific manner in which this will happen is currently not clear.

Under the Hood: The End of MIUI, the Arrival of Rust

The changes reportedly aren’t just superficial. According to sources from XimiTime, Xiaomi is completely removing the remnants of the original MIUI and rewriting key system applications in the Rust programming language. This is expected to ensure greater system fluidity and better security.

Beta testing for HyperOS 4 is expected to kick off in August 2026. Its official debut is anticipated in the third quarter of the year, alongside the Xiaomi 18 series.

Xiaomi has not yet officially confirmed any of this information. Furthermore, leaks from early development phases can differ significantly from the final version of the system.

What would you expect from HyperOS 4?
