Leaks surrounding Xiaomi Pad 9 do not predict a big leap. It is expected to differ from Pad 8 only in minor details

  • Leaks suggest that the base Xiaomi Pad 9 will get the same processor as its predecessor
  • The battery is expected to grow only slightly compared to Pad 8, from 9,200 to 9,720 mAh
  • According to model designations, the premiere is expected no earlier than autumn

Xiaomi is preparing a successor to its successful base tablet, but if the current leaks are accurate, we won’t be cheering too much this time. The new Xiaomi Pad 9 will apparently remain very close to the model it is meant to replace – and we probably won’t see any significant new features.

What we know about Xiaomi Pad 9 so far

Leaks indicate that the base model will retain the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor – precisely the one that powers the current Pad 8. Thus, we probably cannot expect higher performance. The main improvement is expected in the battery: instead of 9,200 mAh, the tablet should offer 9,720 mAh, which is still only an increase of 520 mAh. In practice, this means slightly longer endurance, but certainly not a leap that would justify the sale of a new unit on its own.

How the display will perform, how fast the tablet will charge, or what the cameras will be capable of, no credible leak has shown yet.

The Pro version promises more, but little is certain

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro variant will likely be more interesting, as leaks suggest it will receive the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip. However, the list of confirmed information ends there – we do not yet have a single reliable piece of data regarding the display, battery, or charging of the Pro version.

When it will arrive and how much it will cost

No one has confirmed a specific date yet. Model designations (M656BA and others) point to a premiere no earlier than autumn, but it will most likely first appear in China alongside the Xiaomi 18 series and only later make its way to us. Naturally, Xiaomi has not yet revealed the price.

Would you replace your tablet for a slightly larger battery but the same performance?
