Wire-free robotic lawnmowers were a premium affair just a few years ago. However, the Ecovacs GOAT O800 RTK is now sold at Lidl for only 16,899 CZK, which according to Heureka is the historically lowest price. When it was introduced to the Czech market last year, this mower exceeded 25,000 CZK, so it has dropped by more than eight thousand since then.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you have a garden up to 800 m² and want a mower that you don’t have to install with a shovel and disc into the lawn.
⚠️ Consider if you have areas over 1,000 m² or a heavily shaded plot – RTK navigation has its limits, even if supplemented by LiDAR here.
💡 For 16,899 CZK you get technology that cost 8 thousand more last year, plus a 3-year warranty.

Why this lawnmower is interesting

GOAT O800 RTK is among the mowers without the need for perimeter wire installation, which is the biggest change compared to the classic generation of robots. Instead of burying a cable in the lawn, you just need to set up an RTK reference station, launch the app, and let the mower autonomously map the property using SmartEdge. For a medium-sized garden, this takes a matter of hours, not days as with wired models.

Key parameters explained in plain language

The mower is designed for lawns up to 800 m² and handles slopes with an incline of up to 45% (24°). The cutting disc has a 22 cm cutting width, and the motor for the three blades runs at up to 2,250 revolutions per minute. You can manually adjust the cutting height with a rotary switch in the range of 3 to 8 cm in 11 steps. In practice, this is sufficient flexibility for regular grass, but it’s good to note that the adjustment is made directly on the mower, not via the app.

Navigation is handled by a combination of multi-frequency RTK, 3D ToF LiDAR, and an AI panoramic camera with a 150° field of view. The manufacturer states positioning accuracy of up to 2 cm and support for receiving signals from up to 45 satellites simultaneously with an 80% increase in signal bands compared to dual-frequency RTK. LiDAR serves as a backup in situations where satellite signals are obstructed by trees, high walls, or heavily overcast skies. Intelligent obstacle avoidance is managed by AIVI 3D technology, which recognizes pets, hoses, chairs, or children’s toys.

Practical aspects: battery, maintenance, and safety

Power is provided by a 4Ah Li-Ion battery on a 21V platform. On a single charge, the mower can operate for 65 minutes and mow approximately 195 m². The charging time is 100 minutes, so the entire “mow → charge → continue” cycle takes several hours for a larger garden. For an 800m² area, expect the mower to complete four to five charging cycles per day – therefore, it’s sensible to plan mowing in the ECOVACS HOME app, for example, from morning until early evening.

The mower’s construction has an IPX6 rating, so you can safely leave it outdoors in the rain or wash it with a garden hose. However, the station only has an IPX4 rating, which is good to keep in mind when choosing an installation location. The rain sensor automatically sends the mower home as soon as it starts raining, and you can set a delay before it returns to work in the app. The mower operates exclusively between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM – this is for the protection of nocturnal animals, but you can disable it in the app.

Safety is addressed by a PIN code and an alarm when lifted or moved outside the mapped area. When lifted, the cutting disc automatically stops. Bonus for gardeners: Smart Garden Keeper, via the mower’s camera, provides a real-time remote view of the garden and recognizes people entering the property. The company holds a TÜV Rheinland data protection certificate for this feature.

What’s in the box and what to watch out for

The package includes the mower itself, a charging station with a 5m cable, a power adapter, an RTK reference station with a 10m cable, an RTK station mounting kit (stakes, poles, zip ties), and 9 spare blades. Installing the RTK station is a crucial step and requires placement with the best possible view of the sky – under dense trees or near high walls, occasional satellite signal loss may occur, although LiDAR compensates for this.

Also, pay attention to the statistics from the main retailer: Alza reports an 8.52% return rate for this model, which is a higher number for this category. This is a relatively new technology, and first generations often have quirks, so the 3-year extended warranty makes sense here – it’s not a marketing bonus, but a real safeguard.

When it doesn’t make sense

If you have a garden over 1,000 m², the GOAT O800 RTK will not be sufficient – for larger areas, Ecovacs offers larger models like the A1600 or A3000 with dual LiDAR and an hourly performance of 400 m²/h. Similarly, it doesn’t make sense for very shaded and complex plots surrounded by tall buildings, where the RTK signal might have issues, even if LiDAR compensates for it. If you want absolute navigation certainty, opt for a model with dual LiDAR without RTK.

And if you need truly thorough edge mowing with millimeter precision, more expensive Ecovacs PRO series models have an automatic string trimmer, which this mower lacks. The GOAT O800 RTK handles edges with TruEdge technology via 3D LiDAR and a camera, which in practice is significantly better than classic robotic lawnmowers, but not perfect.

Verdict: who it’s worth it for

At 16,899 CZK at Lidl – which, according to Heureka, is the historically lowest price – the GOAT O800 RTK is one of the most affordable wire-free robotic lawnmowers on the Czech market. The discount compared to last year’s price exceeding 25,000 CZK is significant, and the combination of RTK navigation, 3D LiDAR, AI obstacle avoidance, and a 3-year warranty makes it one of the strongest equipped models in this price range. If you have a garden up to 800 m² and like the idea of an automatic mower controlled from your phone taking care of the lawn, today’s price of 16,899 CZK is a very reasonable entry into this category.

Will you leave the lawn to a robot, or do you still prefer to enjoy mowing it yourself?
