The MacBook Neo has been available in the Czech Republic only since yesterday, but renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is already looking ahead. On the social network X, he shared his predictions regarding the sales of the cheapest MacBook in history and plans for its successor. And some of them are quite surprising.

Neo 2 without a touchscreen?

Kuo claims that the specifications of the MacBook Neo almost exactly match his predictions from June last year. Although production started three months later than originally expected – specifically at the end of December 2025 – this should not significantly affect overall sales. The analyst estimates that Apple will ship 4.5 to 5 million units of this model in 2026.

More interesting, however, are the reports about the upcoming successor. According to original plans, the MacBook Neo 2 was supposed to get a touchscreen display, which would directly compete with Chromebooks – more than half of which support touch. However, the latest information from the supply chain suggests that Apple will likely abandon this plan.

OLED MacBook Pro this year?

Kuo further reiterated his earlier prediction regarding OLED displays in the MacBook lineup. The Pro model should receive OLED with a touch panel as early as the turn of 2026 and 2027. The MacBook Air will wait longer for this technology – estimated until 2028 or 2029.

Overall, the analyst expects Apple to ship approximately 25 million MacBooks in 2026, which would represent a year-on-year growth of 20–25%. According to Kuo, Apple will thus become the only bright spot in the notebook market, while Windows laptop shipments are expected to decline by more than 10%.

Behind this success, according to the analyst, lies a well-thought-out strategy: Apple is leveraging instability in the memory market, absorbing higher costs, and aggressively expanding its market share. Competitors will have to raise prices from the second quarter of 2026, which will only help the Neo.

What do you think of Kuo’s predictions regarding the future of MacBooks?
