For years, one question has revolved around Samsung: will you get Snapdragon or Exynos? The Ultra series has relied exclusively on Qualcomm chips for five years. But now the tables may be turning – a detailed image of the upcoming Exynos 2700 chip has leaked to the public, along with claims that Samsung’s own processor could return to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

What did the image reveal about the Exynos 2700 chip?

The so-called die shot of the processor, a photograph of the silicon die with labeled blocks, was published by the analytical group SemiAnalysis. According to their analysis, the Exynos 2700 consists of a ten-core processor, Xclipse 970 graphics, and a large neural processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence computations. It is expected to be manufactured using Samsung’s second-generation 2nm process, designated as SF2P.

Ten cores, but without efficiency cores – like Apple

The processor layout is unusual. According to the analysis, the Exynos 2700 has two peak Arm C2 Ultra cores, each clocked differently – one at 4.24 GHz, the other at 3.36 GHz. These are complemented by eight performance C2 Pro cores (four at 3.74 GHz and four at 2.88 GHz). However, it lacks the separate efficiency cores that we are used to in mobile chips.

Interestingly, the previous Exynos 2600 had only a single peak core. With a pair of the strongest cores, Samsung is thus approaching Apple’s A-series processors, which have been using the same approach for a longer time.

In addition, the chip will offer 40 MB of cache memory – 24 MB of shared system cache and four four-megabyte L3 blocks dedicated to the processor. This is more than the Dimensity 9500 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (both 24 MB), but still less than the 54 MB in Apple’s A19 Pro.

Xclipse 970 graphics are expected to be based on RDNA 5 architecture

A large part of the chip’s area is occupied by the Xclipse 970 graphics with sixteen compute units. According to speculation, it is based on AMD’s RDNA 5 architecture, which AMD itself has not yet officially introduced. If confirmed, it could be among the most powerful graphics in the mobile world.

The image also suggests LPDDR6 memory support. The Galaxy S27 would thus move a generation beyond today’s LPDDR5X chips, which power the memory of current flagships.

What the processor apparently lacks, however, is an integrated modem – just like the Exynos 2600. Connectivity to 5G, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC, will most likely be handled by separate chips.

Will Exynos return to the Galaxy S27 Ultra?

On paper, the parameters look very good, but real-world tests will be the deciding factor. According to previous leaks, the Exynos 2700 should surpass the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in both CPU and GPU performance – we previously wrote about the first benchmarks, which turned out unexpectedly well for Samsung. And it is precisely this performance that may be the reason why there is talk of Exynos returning to the Galaxy S27 Ultra model.

According to the Korean server MoneyToday, Samsung originally intended to equip the Ultra exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, but after encouraging internal tests, its own chip became a realistic option.

Samsung MX and LSI divisions are reportedly developing a separate Exynos motherboard for the S27 Ultra and ensuring sufficient supplies. Adding its own chip when the Snapdragon version’s development was almost complete is unusual, according to informants – “it speaks to high expectations,” adds one of them.

The regional distribution would reportedly remain the same as for the rest of the series. The Snapdragon version would head to the USA, while Exynos would go to Korea and Europe. The last time something similar happened was with the Galaxy S22 Ultra from 2022 – since then, the Ultra has exclusively run on Qualcomm chips everywhere.

The mix of both processors is not expected to apply only to the Ultra. According to the leak, Exynos should also make its way into the base Galaxy S27, the S27+, and the new S27 Pro models.

In any case, the official unveiling will not happen until early 2027, when the entire Galaxy S27 series is expected to arrive. Until then, treat all parameters and regional distribution as unverified leaks that may still change.
