In July, Xiaomi showed on its global website another air purifier, and now you can buy it here too. The Mijia Smart Air Purifier 6 Plus has appeared in Alza’s offer, where it costs 8,499 CZK and is immediately available. It is still missing from Xiaomi’s Czech website. The new product has joined the basic six and the flagship Max model, to which its parameters are dangerously close.

Performance for apartments up to 91 m²

The Mijia Smart Air Purifier 6 Plus is a slim column measuring 28 × 28 × 71.3 cm, weighing 7.9 kg according to Alza. Inside, a single motor powers a pair of impellers, air is drawn in from three sides and passes through two filters simultaneously. The manufacturer states a measured CADR for particulate matter of 810 m³/h and a coverage area of 53 to 91 m². According to Xiaomi, it should clean a ten-square-meter room in 1.9 minutes.

The purifier moves between rooms on hidden wheels, so one unit can serve the living room during the day and the bedroom at night. In its quietest operation, according to measurements commissioned by Xiaomi, it should emit only 19.4 dB(A). Alza lists a range of 33 to 66 dB(A) in its specifications, but this is likely a different measurement methodology. According to the store, the power consumption is 60 W.

Five stages of purification and five sensors

Filtration has five stages. A pre-filter captures pet hair and coarse impurities, a high-efficiency filter captures fine particles and allergens, and an activated carbon layer captures formaldehyde and odors. This is followed by a UVC module against bacteria and viruses, and finally an ionizer that releases negative ions into the air. Xiaomi states that the purifier removes 99.99% of the H1N1 flu virus and PM2.5 particles in one hour, and 98% of formaldehyde in two hours. These figures come from Chinese laboratories CVC Testing and Guangzhou Institute of Microbiology, with which the manufacturer collaborated, and we cannot independently verify them.

The air quality is reported by five sensors for PM1, PM2.5, dust, temperature, and humidity. Current values are shown on the LCD display on the body, while a more detailed history is available in the Xiaomi Home app, where you can also set timers, automations, or monitor filter life. You can also control the purifier by voice via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

How does it differ from the Max model for 10 thousand?

The closest sibling to the new product is the Mijia Smart Air Purifier Max, which sells for 9,999 CZK in the Czech Republic. We have summarized the main parameters of both models according to the manufacturer’s data in the table:

At first glance, the 6 Plus looks like a better buy, but it’s not that clear-cut. The Max is 18% more expensive, but offers 24% higher CADR for particulate matter. For every m³/h of performance, you pay approximately 10.5 CZK for the 6 Plus, and only 9.9 CZK for the Max. The more expensive model also adds a second UVC module and a formaldehyde sensor, which will be especially appreciated by people in new buildings or after renovation. The Six Plus, on the other hand, also has an ionizer and is 4.7 cm shorter.

Which purifier to choose?

If you live in an apartment up to approximately 90 m² and don’t need to monitor formaldehyde, the 6 Plus will be more than sufficient, and the money saved can be used for replacement filters. The Max makes sense in larger homes, open-plan layouts, or where you want to keep formaldehyde concentration under control.

Just keep in mind that the 6 Plus is a brand new product and currently has no user reviews on Alza. Its performance in regular operation will only be revealed by the first experiences of owners.

Would you opt for the cheaper 6 Plus, or pay extra for the Max?
