More popular Xiaomi phones are ending support! These models will no longer receive any updates

  • Xiaomi has added more phones and tablets, including former flagships Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, to its official End-of-Life list
  • The affected models will no longer receive any Android updates, HyperOS overlay updates, or security patches
  • The timing is piquant — the European Union is currently tightening rules on the minimum length of software support

Hardware usually outlives software today. This is precisely what Xiaomi is now confirming, as it has added several phones and tablets to its end-of-support list. Among them are Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro — 2022 flagships that, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 inside, are still no slouches in terms of performance.

Which phones were affected

Newly added to the list are Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro (both global and several regional versions), and the Chinese Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Also added are the Chinese versions of tablets Xiaomi Pad 6 and Pad 6 Pro. From the mid-range, Redmi Note 12T Pro, Redmi K60E, and for us the most interesting, Redmi 10 5G in its European (EEA) variant, are next. The phones Poco X5 and X5 Pro were added to the list earlier this year, and now regional versions for Turkey and Indonesia have joined them.

For Czech owners, Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro, and Redmi 10 5G are particularly relevant — these were commonly sold here. If you own any of them, the end of support directly affects you.

The phone won’t die, but the safety net is disappearing

Don’t let the title scare you — nothing will break. The phone will continue to make calls, take photos, and launch apps exactly as before. What is ending is the safety net. Any new security vulnerability that attackers find will no longer be fixed by Xiaomi. In practice, this means that the device gradually becomes outdated in terms of security, and over time, you might invite problems, for example, with banking applications that will start to look askance at an unupdated system. The Xiaomi 12 received HyperOS 3 on Android 15 as its last major update; it will not progress further.

And then the EU tightens the screws

While Xiaomi is ending support, the European Union, on the contrary, wants to extend it. New ecodesign and right-to-repair rules, which come into effect on July 31, 2026, will require a minimum of five years of software updates and seven years of spare parts availability for phones sold in Europe. The old four-year window, under which models from 2022 and 2023 fall, does not meet this standard.

Do you address the end of support by replacing your phone, or do you not miss security patches?
