Motorola Moto 360 smartwatches are preparing for a big comeback

  • The first generation of Moto 360 smartwatches was among the very first watches with Google's Android Wear
  • The watches generated a wave of interest primarily due to their (almost) circular display
  • Now, after years, the watches are returning and could once again impress with their design

Despite the wave of interest they generated, the Moto 360 smartwatches have only seen two more generations since the debut of the first generation in 2014. Moreover, Motorola only prepared two of them. For the hitherto latest Moto 360 (2019), Motorola merely licensed the name. This year, however, we should finally see the return of the well-known smartwatches.

Stylish Design and Unknown OS

The new Motorola Moto 360 (2025) smartwatches will, of course, feature a circular display. The first leaked renders reveal that the watches will have a rather robust metal (stainless steel?) case. In addition to the touchscreen, the user will also be able to control them using a crown and a flat button at the 2 and 4 o’clock positions. At least in some variants, the watches should offer a metal bracelet straight out of the box. As the renders suggest, the bracelets/straps will likely be replaceable with non-original ones thanks to the standard attachment.

According to the leak, the watches should arrive in 4 color variants. In addition to different case colors, various designs of the included bracelets and straps can also be expected. What is not clear at all yet is the operating system used. There is speculation about both a return to Google’s Wear OS and the deployment of Motorola’s own, closed operating system. Motorola developed this system and uses it, for example, in the inexpensive Moto Watch Fit. While Wear OS would certainly provide the watches with a range of functions and, above all, the ability to install additional applications, a closed system would help achieve much longer battery life. Reportedly, the deployment of both systems with the option to switch between them might also be in play.

Do you like the Motorola Moto 360 (2025) in the leaked renders?
