Netatmo security camera dropped to its lowest price! It has a built-in battery and night vision

If you’re looking for a security camera that doesn’t require cable pulling and can monitor both interiors and gardens, Alza.cz has an interesting Black Friday offer. The wireless IP camera Omajin by Netatmo OWC-01-EU dropped from 2,949 CZK to 1,749 CZK, which is a discount of over 40 percent. Omajin is a “cheaper brand” under the Netatmo umbrella, so you get solid technology without the premium price tag.

What Omajin actually is

Omajin is not some unknown Chinese brand from AliExpress. It is an affordable line from the French Netatmo, which is among the established smart home manufacturers. Netatmo’s portfolio includes weather stations, thermostats, cameras, and detectors that have been reliably functioning for a long time. Omajin is their attempt to appeal to customers who don’t want to pay premium prices but desire a reliable product.

Battery instead of cable

The main advantage of the Omajin OWC-01-EU is its built-in rechargeable battery, which lasts several months on a single charge. This means you can mount the camera anywhere you have a WiFi signal, without having to deal with power wiring. Ideal for a garage, backyard, terrace, or even a gate.

Battery life depends on how often the camera records. If you have it in a quiet location where not much happens, it can last up to half a year. If you place it in an area with a lot of people or animals moving around, the battery will drain faster. In any case, you need to charge it via a USB cable, which means removing the camera from its mount, connecting it to a charger, and then putting it back, or connecting a power bank to it. It’s not as convenient as mains power, but for the flexibility of installation, it’s worth it to many.

Full HD and night vision

The camera has a sensor with a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, which is Full HD. This is sufficient for facial recognition or car license plates, provided the object is not too far away. The viewing angle is 140 degrees, which is quite wide – covering a larger portion of the space.

Night vision is classic infrared, not color like with more expensive cameras. In practice, this means black-and-white footage at night, but it’s sufficient for person identification. Don’t expect miracles – in complete darkness, the camera has a range of about 5-8 meters; beyond that, the image becomes blurry.

Human vs. animal detection

Here, Omajin is a level above the cheapest cameras. It features intelligent motion detection that can distinguish between humans and animals. According to reviews, the PIR sensor is very sensitive, so detection works reliably. In practice, this means the camera won’t send you a notification every time a cat or dog walks by.

Important note from reviews: the camera only sends a photo to your phone, not a video. The full video is stored on the microSD card inside the camera. This is a bit impractical – if something happens and you want to quickly check the video, you either have to wait for it to upload to the cloud (if you have a subscription) or remove the SD card.

The package includes a 32GB microSD card, where recordings are stored. This should be enough for several days to weeks of video, depending on how much the camera records. The camera supports cards up to 256 GB, so you can expand the capacity.

Two-way audio and smart assistants

The camera has a built-in microphone and speaker, so you can talk to the person in front of the camera. According to reviews, it acts as a “deterrent” – you can remotely address or scare someone away.

The camera is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can control it by voice or integrate it into smart home automations. The Netatmo app works in Czech, which is a nice touch – not all security cameras have Czech localization.

IP65 and outdoor use

The camera has IP65 rating, which means protection against dust and jetting water. In practice, it can handle rain, snow, and normal weather conditions. However, do not expose it to direct water jets or extreme temperatures – the specifications state an operating range from -20 °C to 45 °C.

The package includes a magnetic mount and mounting hardware, making installation simple. You attach the mount to a wall or other surface and then just place the camera on it – it holds magnetically. Removing it for charging then takes only a second.

Is it worth 1,749 CZK?

For less than two thousand, you get a wireless camera with solid functionality. It’s not a top-tier model with 4K resolution or color night vision, but for basic home or garden monitoring, it’s more than sufficient. Especially when it comes from a well-known brand with a functional app and support.

The only significant downsides are the need to recharge the battery and the paid cloud service. If you don’t mind checking recordings locally from the SD card and regularly charging the camera, it’s a good deal for 1,749 CZK.
