Why Galaxy Buds4 Pro are interesting

Samsung made significant internal changes in the fourth generation. The main novelty is a wider bass driver (woofer), whose effective area has increased by almost 20%. In practice, this means deeper and more structured bass – when testing with drum and bass and electronic music, the difference compared to the previous generation was noticeable. In addition, Samsung added a dedicated treble driver (tweeter), so the entire frequency range is covered by a 2-way speaker with a dual amplifier.

Design-wise, Samsung has moved away from sharp edges. The earbud body is rounder and without a light strip on the stem. The case has a transparent lid, and the earbuds are placed horizontally inside – unlike the previous model, where they were placed stem-first. A practical bonus: wireless charging support means you don’t have to worry about cables if you have a Qi pad at home.

Specifications on paper look good, but what does that mean in practice? 24bit/96kHz audio (UHQ) delivers a higher dynamic range and more detailed sound – but only if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone with One UI 6.1.1 or newer. On other devices, you’ll connect via standard Bluetooth codecs (AAC, SBC), which is still solid, but without that “extra” detail.

The earbuds are controlled by gestures on the stem – pressing and swiping a finger. Honestly, it takes a while to get used to. Pressing the stem to switch between ANC modes is not as intuitive as touch controls on some competitors. On the other hand, it eliminates accidental touches when putting them on.

Connectivity includes Bluetooth 6.1 and the Auto Switch feature for switching between Samsung devices. The Super Clear Call feature is interesting, as it uses machine learning to suppress ambient noise during calls – but again, only on Galaxy phones with One UI 6.1.1+. IP57 resistance means protection against dust and immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

When it doesn’t make sense

If you don’t have a Samsung Galaxy phone, a significant portion of the features will be unavailable to you. UHQ audio, Super Clear Call, 360 Audio with head tracking, AI interpreter – all of this requires a Samsung phone with One UI. On an iPhone or another Android device, you’ll get “just” very good earbuds with ANC, but for a price around 5,000 CZK, there are alternatives that are not as dependent on a specific ecosystem.
