Anyone who has ever turned on a bedside lamp at night and been momentarily blinded knows how much the lowest brightness setting matters. The Xiaomi Mijia Bedside Lamp 3 targets exactly this situation. After eight years, the Chinese manufacturer has introduced a successor to its popular bedside lamp, which shines brighter, dims almost to darkness, and features full-spectrum LEDs.

Sunlight-like illumination and brightness up to 570 lumens

As reported by the Chinese server ITHome, the new product uses full-spectrum LED diodes. Xiaomi states that their spectrum is more than 98 percent close to sunlight. The Ra90 color rendering index is designed to ensure that skin, book pages, and furniture have natural colors under the lamp.

The brightness range has also significantly improved. The lamp can achieve a maximum of 570 lumens and a minimum of under 1 lumen. The second generation from 2018, meanwhile, topped out at 400 lumens and could be dimmed to 2 lumens. The third generation will thus serve for reading as well as a gentle light when you get up at night and don’t want to wake anyone.

The light is diffused by an internal diffuser and two shades, the outer one with a matte finish, so the lamp should illuminate evenly in all directions. Xiaomi also boasts TÜV SÜD certification, according to which the lamp’s blue light poses no risk to the eyes and the light does not flicker.

16 million colors and touch control across the entire top

You have a choice of 16 million colors. However, Xiaomi focuses mainly on muted pastel shades with presets like forest, snowy mountains, sunset, or clear sky. There are 11 dynamic and 7 static effects available.

Control has moved to a touch surface across the entire top. Simply reach out your hand and the lamp will light up; a long press then switches between effects. This way, you don’t have to fumble for a small button at night.

In the Mi Home app, you can set up light-based wake-up, where the lamp gradually brightens in the morning, or conversely, falling asleep with a dim, warm light. The new product also supports the Xiaomi HyperOS Connect ecosystem, allowing you to connect it with smart speakers or locks, for example. For voice control, the manufacturer currently only mentions the Chinese assistant Xiao Ai.

Crowdfunding starts October 28

The lamp is already displayed on the Chinese e-shop Xiaomi Youpin, and crowdfunding will start on October 28. During the crowdfunding period, it will cost 269 yuan (approximately 870 CZK). According to MyDrivers, the regular price will be 299 yuan (about 970 CZK). This means it will be more expensive than the second generation, which started at 169 yuan in China.

Xiaomi has not yet stated whether the new product will reach Europe. However, the second generation was eventually sold in a European version, so there is a chance.

Do you use a smart lamp by your bed, or is a regular one enough for you?
