One UI 8.5 will intelligently manage your connection. Artificial intelligence will decide when it's better to switch to data

  • Samsung will deploy artificial intelligence in One UI 8.5 for automatic switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data
  • The phone will learn to recognize a weak Wi-Fi signal and automatically switch to mobile data
  • The Intelligent Network Switch feature will monitor connection history based on the user's movement route

Samsung is intensively working on the development of the One UI 8.5 overlay, which will bring a number of interesting new features. According to information from SammyGuru, the South Korean giant has focused, among other things, on improving network connection management. The biggest innovation will be the use of artificial intelligence for automatic switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, which is intended to significantly improve user comfort when moving between different networks.

Artificial intelligence manages network connection

A new item, Switch to mobile data with AI, will be added to the Wi-Fi settings, offering two intelligent switching options. The first feature, named Intelligent Link Assessment, analyzes the quality of the Wi-Fi connection and, based on learned data, automatically recognizes when the signal is too weak for reliable use. In such a case, the phone will automatically switch to mobile data without the user having to do anything.

The second feature, Intelligent Network Switch, goes a step further. The system will remember the history of network switching based on the user’s movement and can predict when the connection type will need to change. For example, if you travel the same route to work every day, the phone will learn where the Wi-Fi signal weakens and proactively switch to mobile data even before a dropout.

Priority for video calls and gaming

According to available information, Samsung will also add the Realtime Data Priority Mode feature to One UI 8.5, which will prioritize data traffic for video calls and online games over background update downloads. This feature replaces a similar option from One UI 8.0 called Prioritize real-time data, with Samsung having fine-tuned its operation for better responsiveness when gaming or during important work calls.

Interestingly, the Secure Wi-Fi feature, which encrypted internet traffic on public networks, disappeared from the test version of One UI 8.5. However, Samsung will likely bring it back in a future version. Conversely, the Show Floating Time option has been added to the developer settings, which displays the exact Wi-Fi connection time, including hours, minutes, and seconds.

Machine learning instead of generative AI

Although Samsung uses the term AI, it is actually machine learning based on user data, not generative artificial intelligence. The system analyzes when the user typically turns off Wi-Fi due to a weak signal and gradually learns to predict these situations. The result should be smoother switching between networks without user intervention.

One UI 8.5 does not yet have an official release date, but according to leaks, the first beta version could appear early next year along with the Galaxy S26 series. Samsung will then gradually roll out the final version to older models, including the Galaxy S25, S24 series, and other supported devices.

Will you appreciate automatic switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data controlled by artificial intelligence?
