Running PC games on an Android phone stopped being a curiosity for enthusiasts sometime when flagship phones started featuring Snapdragons with gaming console performance. One of the most popular tools for this purpose, GameHub, has now received an update with a feature that pushes PC gaming on mobile a step further – modification support.

Mods as the main draw

GameSir announced version 6.2.0 on its Discord, and the biggest new feature is the ability to modify games. This applies to titles from Steam as well as games you manually import into the application.

It’s more interesting than it seems at first glance. Modifications often address exactly what hurts most on mobile – user interface adjustments for smaller displays, reduced performance requirements, or enabling touch controls. Anyone who has tried playing a game designed for a mouse and keyboard on a phone knows what I’m talking about.

Cloud controls and a clearer library

The second significant change concerns controllers. GameHub now supports keyboard and mouse mapping with cloud saving, so you can transfer your custom layout to another device without having to set it up again.

The Steam integration has also improved – from the app, you can quickly access friends, achievements, and the Workshop. The game library has been redesigned and is now divided by platforms and stores. Among the fixed bugs, a component loading issue and non-functional cloud save synchronization are worth mentioning.

This is the first update since June, when GameHub added Steam overlay, Workshop support, redesigned compatibility ratings, and the option to choose a custom installation location.

One unpleasant footnote

Meanwhile, an unpleasant story persists around GameSir. The company faces accusations of incorporating code from community projects into its product without crediting the authors. It has so far refused to comment on these inquiries.

If that bothers you, alternatives exist. Besides GameHub, you can opt for projects like GameNative, Winlator, or Winlator Ludashi – incidentally, GameNative implemented modification support earlier. Competition in this area is healthy, and that’s ultimately good news for players.

Have you tried playing PC games on your phone, or does it seem like unnecessary hassle?
