Google has released the latest Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro phone models for sale. However, new owners are puzzled. Although Google promised a 70% charge in 30 minutes, the reality seems to be completely different.

That the phone would drain quickly while several hundred GB of data were being downloaded and dozens of applications installed didn’t surprise me. It’s common for a device to be significantly more stressed after the first power-on than during normal use – photo synchronization, update downloads, and data indexing occur in the background. All these processes mean not only higher energy consumption.

What did surprise me, however, was the situation when I placed the phone on a Qi2 wireless charger – it couldn’t even maintain the charge level. After dropping to 13%, I therefore connected the original Google wired charger with 33 W output. But even then, the phone didn’t start charging at the usual speed – it indicated that it would only reach full charge in over 4 hours!

When charging is slow

Many users in such a moment start to worry if something is wrong with the charger, cable, or even the phone itself. However, it is necessary to take into account that when under load (for example, during the initial installation and data recovery), the phone limits charging speed precisely to protect the battery from overheating. If the device starts to overheat excessively, the phone automatically slows down the charging power to prevent damage to the battery or, in extreme cases, the phone itself.

This behavior is largely normal and quite common with other brands as well – but not to the extent I experienced with the Pixel 10 Pro just now. It therefore surprised me a bit how much real load can slow down charging.

When I disconnected the phone from the charger, let it rest for a while, and then reconnected it, a more optimistic charging time of about 2 hours appeared. That’s still more than Google promises, but so be it. But right now it’s 7:15 PM, the phone should have been at 100% already, but the reality is only 72%.

The system offers the option to perform battery diagnostics. According to it, however, everything is fine.

Does the Pixel 10 Pro have a problem?

This is definitely something to watch out for if you plan, for example, to use your new phone as a car navigation system during the summer. If you combine demanding applications, high car temperatures, and a fast charger, it can happen that the phone not only won’t charge fast enough, but in extreme cases, the charge percentage will even decrease.

At this moment, it is too early to sufficiently verify how widespread the problem is. But to my question in a Facebook group, I received this answer.

Keep a cool head

If your phone charges slower than the manufacturer states shortly after purchase, there’s no immediate need to panic. Usually, it’s enough to let the phone rest for a while, reduce its load, and within a few days, the charging speed will stabilize at a normal level. Nevertheless, it’s good to know that fast charging is not a given, especially if the phone is under load and heating up.

Have you experienced slow charging with the Pixel 10 Pro?
