Pixel 6a caught fire again, Google's fix didn't help

Google recently admitted to a problem with the Pixel 6a phone. The phone’s battery can overheat, which has led to several cases of ignition. Google released an update software that ensures the battery will not charge to full capacity after reaching a certain number of charging cycles.

However, a case of the Pixel 6a phone catching fire has now appeared on Reddit, with the owner claiming that the update, which was supposed to prevent this very thing, had already been installed on the phone. The charger cannot be blamed for the incident either, as a 45W Steam Deck charger was used.

According to Reddit user footymanageraddict, the fire occurred at night during charging. According to the post, he was woken up by a smell and a loud sound. The phone was already burning, but fortunately, he managed to disconnect the charging cable and throw the phone onto the floor. However, the owner stated that his neck had been sore all day from inhaling the fumes.

The phone reportedly showed no signs of problems, such as a swollen battery. While Google offers free battery replacement, this service is not available in the unfortunate owner’s country. In a similar case with the Pixel 7a phone, Google offered generous compensation, covering the cost not only of a new battery but almost a new phone as well. For the year-older model, Google has not committed to such an action.
