POCO F8 Ultra is said to improve something its predecessor completely surprised with. What will it be?

Interesting speculations have appeared on the social network Weibo about the upcoming smartphone POCO F8 Ultra, which is expected to be the successor to last year’s POCO F7 Ultra. The main new feature is said to be a periscope telephoto lens with a 50Mpx Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor measuring 1/2.76″. This is a significant upgrade compared to the current model, which does offer a telephoto lens, but not in a periscope design, which allows for higher quality optical zoom.

According to available information, POCO F8 Ultra will likely be the global version of the upcoming Redmi K90 Pro, which is expected to be unveiled in China by the end of this year. This approach would be consistent with the brand’s strategy from previous years, where global POCO models often originated from Chinese Redmi phones.

Speculation also suggests that the phone will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which was introduced recently and already powers popular Xiaomi 17 flagships. Thanks to this, the POCO F8 Ultra should maintain its reputation as a smartphone that is at the performance peak, but at a much more affordable price compared to other ultra high-end models.

What does the current POCO F7 Ultra offer?

Let’s recall that the current POCO F7 Ultra offers a 6.67″ WQHD+ Flow AMOLED display with brightness up to 3200 nits, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a trio of cameras (50MP main, 50MP telephoto, 32MP ultrawide), and a 5300mAh battery with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.

In our review, we praised the phone primarily for its phenomenal performance, bright display, fast charging, ultrasonic fingerprint reader, and surprisingly good camera setup including the telephoto lens. The main shortcomings were average battery life, bloatware in the system, and the absence of eSIM.

If the information about the periscope telephoto lens is confirmed, the POCO F8 Ultra should offer even better photographic capabilities than its predecessor. Given that the telephoto lens was one of the pleasant surprises of the F7 Ultra, an improvement in this area makes sense.
