Xiaomi has expanded the popular POCO X8 series with a base model that takes a slightly different approach than its more powerful siblings. It doesn’t rely on the fastest chip, but on endurance and durability – it received one of the largest displays and batteries in its price class, but with a processor designed to keep the price down.

POCO X8 appeals with a bright display and large battery

The front is dominated by a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. POCO states a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits, so it should remain readable even in direct sunlight, and it’s protected by durable Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

However, the main attraction lies inside. The new device is powered by an 8,340 mAh battery based on silicon-carbon technology, which the manufacturer has supplemented with 67W charging and reverse charging for other devices at up to 22.5 W. POCO talks about battery life exceeding two days (but in reality, it will depend on how much you use the phone).

It is precisely in durability that the base model stands out the most. The body is certified against dust and water with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, and according to the manufacturer, it can survive a three-meter drop onto granite. An underwater photography mode and Wet Touch 2.0 technology, which is designed to respond to touch even with wet fingers, have also been added.

Where the phone saves, however, is on performance. Inside, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset manufactured with a 4nm process is at work, targeting everyday use rather than demanding gaming. Memory variants start at 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and go up to a combination of 12 GB and 256 GB.

Images are handled by a main 50Mpx camera with optical stabilization, complemented by a 2Mpx depth sensor and a 16Mpx selfie camera; however, don’t expect an ultrawide lens here. The system is powered by HyperOS 3 with Google tools including Gemini, and POCO promises updates for five years. NFC, an infrared port, and stereo speakers are also present. It is available in black, white, and orange.

How does POCO X8 compare to X8 Pro and Pro Max?

Interestingly, the base model even surpasses its more expensive siblings in some respects. It offers a larger battery and display than the POCO X8 Pro and the highest durability of the entire trio – both higher-end models stick to IP68 rating. However, the price for a lower cost is clear: a weaker chip, slower 67 W charging instead of 100 W, and a missing ultrawide camera.

How much does POCO X8 cost?

According to XimiTime, the POCO X8 is sold in Europe at prices starting from 319 euros for the base configuration (likely 8/256GB), while the variant with 12 GB RAM and 256GB storage costs 359 euros. This translates to approximately 8,000 and 9,000 CZK respectively, but the official Czech price is not yet known. For comparison: the more powerful POCO X8 Pro is sold in the Czech Republic starting from 7,829 CZK, so the base model with its European price is in a similar range. Xiaomi has not yet specified how much the Czech market will ask for it and when it will arrive.
