Garmin has started distributing a beta version of the software, labeled 15.01, which primarily focuses on fixing a golf map issue and other minor functional improvements.

Availability only for beta testers

As the designation suggests, this is not a general update for all users. Only those who are part of the Garmin public beta program will get access to the new firmware. Unlike some more complex procedures, installing this update is relatively straightforward – simply request it directly on the watch from the menu Main Menu > Settings > System > Software Update. Users therefore do not need to manually transfer files or use a computer.

Although beta updates usually carry a higher risk of new bugs, in this case, the main goal is to fix an existing problem. Specifically, it addresses issues with golf map downloads that occurred in the previous software version.

What does firmware 15.01 bring?

According to the official changelog published by a Garmin representative, the update includes three main points:

• Fix for golf map download issue
• Update to respiration variation tracking
• Improvement to watch numerical password (passcode) function

The last mentioned feature is an interesting security element that protects sensitive health data stored on the watch. A numerical code is required whenever the watch is removed from the wrist, which also serves as a deterrent against theft.
