Portable projectors with batteries have moved from the toy segment to more seriously intended devices in recent years, and XGIMI is one of the first brands to achieve this. The Halo+ model has now dropped to 10 998 Kč with code ALZADNY35, which is a fifth below its original launch price. For a portable Full HD projector with Harman/Kardon speakers and Android TV, this is a price worth looking at.

What Halo+ can do in practice

In terms of image, don’t expect miracles – it’s a DLP LED projector with Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080) and 700 ISO lumens brightness. For a darkened room or an evening garden, this is more than enough; owners on Alza confirm that it can be projected with a margin even during the day with drawn curtains. In an outdoor environment, wait for dusk – there’s no point even considering it in full sun. The built-in battery lasts for approximately two hours of active projection, which is enough for one typical movie. For longer programs, you plug the projector into an outlet.

Truly interesting is the set of automatic image adjustment functions: horizontal and vertical keystone correction, autofocus with over 10,000 focusing points, and intelligent obstacle avoidance (sockets, pictures on the wall). In practice, this means you can place the projector on a table, not directly opposite the screen, and the image will still align itself. Sound is handled by two 5W Harman/Kardon speakers, which are truly above average for a portable projector – one user in a review compares them to JBL Bluetooth boxes. However, for film production, we still recommend connecting an external soundbar or Bluetooth speaker.

Android TV and the stumbling block named Netflix

Halo+ runs on Android TV 10, giving you access to Google Play with thousands of apps – Disney+, HBO Max, YouTube, Prime Video, Spotify, or Apple TV+ work without issues. Chromecast and AirPlay also work, so you can extend the image from your phone to the wall with a single tap. The problem is Netflix, which XGIMI Halo+ does not have officially certified. It can be made to work via unofficial APKs from third-party sources, but it’s a workaround that won’t please everyone.

Another minor flaw is powering via its own DC connector – newer XGIMI models already use USB-C with Power Delivery support, but Halo+ still has an external adapter. When traveling, this means carrying a dedicated power source, and the projector cannot be charged from a standard power bank.

Verdict: an affordable entry into the XGIMI ecosystem

The XGIMI Halo+ for 10 998 Kč is more of an entry point into mobile projection today than a flagship. If you need a projector primarily for screening movies in the garden, evening sessions at the cottage, or holidays at the campsite and you can handle Netflix via your phone or laptop, it’s still a very reasonable purchase. For a fixed home cinema without the need for portability, opt for a classic projector instead – for the same money, you’ll get higher brightness and usually 4K.
