The key innovation is Sound Motion™ technology, which allows for deeper and more powerful bass in a more compact body. According to Sonos, it delivers double the bass performance compared to the previous Arc generation – and without the need to purchase a subwoofer.

Sound: Dolby Atmos and 14 drivers

The Arc Ultra uses 14 precisely tuned drivers in a 9.1.4 channel configuration for full Dolby Atmos spatial audio. Seven silk-dome tweeters ensure clear highs and crisp dialogue, two of which are upward-firing for a dedicated height channel. Six mid-bass drivers cover the mid-range frequencies.

The Speech Enhancement feature uses artificial intelligence to recognize human voices and offers four adjustable levels for optimal dialogue audibility. Night Sound reduces the intensity of loud sounds and increases the level of quieter ones – ideal for watching movies when others are asleep.

Practical aspects: connectivity, setup, ecosystem

Connection to the TV is via HDMI eARC (cable included). For full Dolby Atmos, it’s important to have both the TV and streaming device set to “passthrough” – otherwise, the sound will not pass through correctly. The soundbar also supports Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay 2.

The Trueplay™ feature in the Sonos app automatically calibrates the sound to your room’s acoustics – now it also works on Android, not just iOS. You can control it with your TV remote, touch controls on the soundbar, or via the app. Voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is also available.

The Arc Ultra also functions as a spatial speaker for music streaming – you can connect it with other Sonos speakers in different rooms. For an even more immersive experience, you can add a Sonos Sub subwoofer and Era 300 rear speakers.
