Apple recently introduced the cheapest model of this year’s lineup, and the market is already reacting. The iPhone 17e is selling on Heureka from 15,090 CZK — almost two thousand cheaper than the official 16,990 CZK. For a phone that has only been on the market for a few days, this is an unusually rapid drop. And at this price, it’s an interesting choice for anyone who wants an iPhone with a current chip and long software support, but doesn’t need three cameras and a 120Hz display.

What you get for it

The A19 chip is practically the same as what powers the iPhone 17 — it just has one less GPU core. In everyday use, you won’t notice it; the performance is among the absolute best in smartphones. The 6.1″ OLED Super Retina XDR display with 800 nits brightness (1,200 nits in HDR) is color-accurate and perfectly sufficient for everyday use. It supports HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG.

There is one camera — a 48Mpx Fusion with an f/1.6 aperture and optical stabilization. It’s excellent for everyday photography and social media; 2× zoom via sensor crop works decently. The front camera has 12 Mpx. The 4,005 mAh battery handles over 19 hours of web browsing — comfortably a full day. Charging is 20 W via cable, 15 W wirelessly via MagSafe. Storage finally starts at 256 GB without a price increase compared to its predecessor.

Where Apple cut corners

The display runs at 60 Hz — in 2026, this is hard to justify for a phone costing fifteen thousand, when Android competitors offer 120 Hz for a third of the price. Design-wise, it’s almost an iPhone 14 — wide notch, thicker bezels, one camera on the back. It lacks an ultrawide lens, so no macro, no wider shots. Wi-Fi is only 6 without the 6GHz band, Bluetooth 5.3 without LDAC, USB-C is still just 2.0. And there’s no UWB chip, so you won’t be able to find AirTags with precise guidance.

The charger is traditionally missing from the package. And 20 W charging is slow compared to Android competitors.

Who it makes sense for

The iPhone 17e is for people who want to be in the Apple ecosystem with a current chip and at least five years of update support — and who don’t need camera gimmicks or 120Hz smoothness. If you’re upgrading from an older iPhone (12, 13, or SE), it’s a significant leap forward. However, if you’re also considering Android, for 15 thousand you can get a phone with a 120 Hz display, three cameras, and faster charging — for example, the Xiaomi 15T Pro, which is now available for similar money.
