Redmi 15C appears again, this time we also know the price

If you’ve ever looked for a really cheap, new smartphone, it’s quite likely that your attention also fell on one of the Redmi C series smartphones from Xiaomi. Currently, it is the most affordable option from the Chinese manufacturer. During sales, the prices of these smartphones even drop below the magical threshold of 2 thousand CZK, so it’s clear that we can only expect really basic features here. How will the upcoming Redmi 15C fare?

Repeats the mistakes of its predecessors

Unfortunately, I must state that the manufacturer has once again focused on things that are rather secondary. The biggest intergenerational change will probably be the redesigned look along with a 6,000mAh battery supporting 33W charging. While improvements to battery and charging speed are welcome, the new design is not exactly what the new device needed. Not that it isn’t appealing, but instead of constant intergenerational changes in appearance, the manufacturer could have focused more on hardware features. In essence, for the fourth time, it seems we will have the pleasure of dealing with a chipset manufactured using an outdated 12nm process – the Mediatek Helio G85. Although it hides behind the designation Helio G81 Ultra in the last two generations of cheap Redmi phones, it is still the same chipset, just with a slightly more modern modem supporting Bluetooth 5.4.

The whole matter is even more amusing when you realize that the Redmi 10C offered a significantly better Snapdragon 680, and then for three consecutive years, its successors have had to make do with a weaker Mediatek. The choice of chipset is even more disappointing when you look at the rest of the parameters, which don’t sound bad at all for a cheap phone. It is expected to feature a 6.9″ IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but most likely only HD+ resolution.

Furthermore, a 50MP primary camera, a fingerprint reader in the power button, and NFC should again be present. The phone should then be available in 4/128 and 4/256 GB versions, but I wouldn’t be surprised if, following its predecessor, it also arrived in an 8/256GB version. The mentioned Italian e-shop then listed the Redmi 15C for 133.9 and 154.9 € respectively, which translates to approximately 3,300 and 4,300 CZK including VAT. This is largely consistent with the launch prices of the Redmi 14C, but just like with its predecessor, I would expect a subsequent rapid price drop here as well.
