Xiaomi officially unveiled the Redmi Turbo 5 Max in China, a phone with specifications that would not be out of place even in a flagship device. The main star is the battery with a massive 9,000 mAh capacity, and Redmi also offers 100W wired charging, which should be able to fully charge it in about an hour.

The phone is also the first in the world to use the freshly announced MediaTek Dimensity 9500s. This is a more powerful version of last year’s Dimensity 9400, with the letter “s” indicating higher clock speeds and optimizations for better efficiency (not to be confused with the full-fledged Dimensity 9500). The chipset is paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Cooling is provided by a large vapor chamber, so the phone should not overheat even during demanding games.

Flagship-level Display

On the front, there’s a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 12-bit color depth and M10 material, allowing for a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. The panel offers a 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, and a 480 Hz touch sampling rate for fast response.

Hidden under the display is a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader, which should work faster and more reliably than traditional optical variants. The selfie camera has a resolution of 20 MPx.

Camera: solid foundation, but nothing extraordinary

On the back, you’ll find two lenses. The main one is a 50MP Light Fusion 600 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), which should handle both day and night scenes. The second lens is an 8MP ultrawide with a field of view of around 120°. A third lens is missing – no macro or telephoto lens.

What else the phone offers

Redmi Turbo 5 Max runs on HyperOS 3, which is currently the latest version of Xiaomi’s system. The phone offers stereo speakers, an IR blaster for controlling appliances, dual SIM, IP69K protection (which means resistance even to hot pressurized water), Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6, and NFC for contactless payments.

Another interesting feature is the support for 27W reverse wired charging, so you can charge other devices from this phone. Xiaomi has also implemented its own P3 chips for fast charging and G1 for battery management, which are designed to ensure a longer battery lifespan.

Price and Availability

The Redmi Turbo 5 Max is available in China in four colors: Auspicious Cloud White, Ocean Blue, Sunshine Orange, and Shadow Black. Prices start at 2,499 CNY (approximately 7,300 CZK) for the 12/256 GB version. The 12/512 GB variant costs 2,799 CNY (8,200 CZK).

For the European market, phones from the Redmi Turbo series traditionally arrive under the POCO brand, most likely as POCO X8 or POCO F8. If Xiaomi maintains its pricing strategy from previous years, we can expect a price of around 10,000 to 12,000 CZK for the base model, which would make it a very interesting choice in the segment of powerful phones with excellent battery life. However, the question remains whether the battery capacity will be reduced in our region.
