The Republic of Gamers brand celebrates twenty years this year, and for the occasion, ASUS has released a series of limited editions in a gold-and-black design. One of them is the GT-BE98 Edition 20 router, which has now arrived at Alza for 19,999 CZK. And it’s not just a different color – it’s a flagship quad-band Wi-Fi 7, of which there aren’t many on the market.

Four Bands Instead of the Usual Two

While standard routers broadcast on two bands, this one is quad-band: 2.4 GHz, one 5GHz, and most importantly, a 6GHz band with speeds up to 11,529 Mb/s, which is currently virtually empty and thus free from interference from neighbors. The total theoretical throughput reaches 18,669 Mb/s. Practically, this means the router can effortlessly handle a household full of devices – gaming PCs, consoles, TVs, cameras, and a dozen mobile phones all at once.

The wired connectivity is equally generous: two ten-gigabit ports (one LAN, one WAN/LAN) and four 2.5 Gb/s ports. Anyone with a NAS or fast fiber optics at home will truly utilize this throughput. Everything is managed by a 2.6 GHz quad-core processor with 2 GB of DDR4 memory – this is hardware you’d expect more in a small computer than in a router, and it’s the main reason why the device can handle dozens of connected clients without slowing down.

For gamers, there are features for which the ROG series is purchased: a dedicated gaming LAN port that automatically gets priority in traffic, three-level game acceleration, and one-tap traffic prioritization in the mobile app. Also included are AiMesh for extending the network with other ASUS routers, the AiProtection security suite, VPN, parental controls, and eight external antennas.

Gold on Black and Aluminum Body

The anniversary edition differs from the standard model primarily in its design. ASUS used aluminum with a polished surface and diamond cut, the cooling plate features an exclusive ROG pattern, and the antenna bases have a golden metallic coating, which, according to the manufacturer, also improves signal transmission. Also included is a special color theme for the web interface exclusive to this edition – a detail that collectors will appreciate.

But let’s be realistic about the size: the router measures 35 × 35 centimeters and weighs two kilograms, so you won’t hide it behind a cabinet. Foreign reviewers describe it as “console-sized” – it’s a device you either place in a visible spot or you’ll have to figure out where to put it.
