The Garmin Forerunner 55 was released in 2021, and in five years on the market, it has built a reputation as a reliable marathoner for runners. The Aqua version is on Alza for 3,316 CZK with code ALZADNY5. GPS, wrist-based heart rate measurement, training recommendations, Body Battery, up to 14 days of battery life, and a weight of just 37 grams — for what most recreational runners need, it’s still sufficient. But it’s fair to say that it’s an older model, and for a little more money, you can get something more modern.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you run, cycle, or swim and want a reliable Garmin with GPS and long battery life for the least amount of money.
⚠️ Consider that it’s a 2021 model — it doesn’t have an AMOLED display, touch control, oximeter, or Garmin Pay. For approximately 5,000 CZK, you can buy the newer Forerunner 165.
💡 For 3,316 CZK you get GPS/GLONASS/Galileo, wrist-based heart rate measurement, sport profiles, custom workouts, 5 ATM water resistance, and 14-day battery life.

Forerunner 55 or something newer?

This is a key question you need to answer. For 3,316 CZK, you get proven Garmin sports watches with excellent GPS accuracy. The Garmin Connect app is one of the best on the market — workouts, statistics, sport profiles, everything works flawlessly. For running, cycling, and swimming, it’s still a great choice.

But for approximately 5,000 CZK, you can buy the Garmin Forerunner 165, which adds an AMOLED display (a huge difference in readability), touch control, a better GPS chip, and more modern sensors. And if you care more about smart features than sport — notifications, apps, payments — for similar money, you can get watches with Wear OS by Google, which will be significantly more capable in this regard. The Forerunner 55 is primarily a sports tool, not a smartwatch in the traditional sense.

Who it still makes sense for

If you run and want a reliable Garmin for minimum money — the Forerunner 55 is a clear choice. Battery life of 14 days in watch mode and 20 hours with GPS enabled surpasses most competitors, including newer models. A weight of 37 grams means you barely feel it on your wrist. Button control is more reliable than touch during a run. And the transflective MIP display is more readable in direct sunlight than AMOLED. Just be aware that the display looks “outdated” and smart features (notifications, music control) are basic.

An older, proven model for three thousand, or a newer one for five? What would you choose?
