On Tuesday, Samsung announced the expansion of the One UI 8 overlay beta program to more devices in the Galaxy portfolio. At the same time, it confirmed that the stable version will arrive in September this year, which almost puts an end to speculation about the release date of the final system (the exact date is still unknown).

The test version of One UI 8, which was introduced in May for the Galaxy S25 flagships, will be available to owners of other smartphones starting next week. The beta program will thus include the Galaxy S24 family and the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 foldables in South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.

Registration takes place through the Samsung Members app, where users can activate the test version directly on their device. Samsung thus continues its tradition of involving the community in the development of its own Android operating system overlays.

September Brings Another Wave of Supported Devices

An even more extensive expansion awaits users in September. The One UI 8 beta program will then reach the Galaxy S23 series, the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 foldables, and selected mid-range models including the A36 5G, A55 5G, A35 5G, and A54. Availability may vary depending on the specific model and market.

It is in September that Samsung plans to release the stable version of One UI 8 to the general public. It’s no surprise that the update will start with the Galaxy S25 series and gradually expand to other compatible devices. This way, the manufacturer will at least have enough time to incorporate feedback from beta testers.

New Possibilities with Artificial Intelligence

One UI 8 brings enhanced Galaxy AI features with multimodal capabilities that better understand usage context. When paired with Galaxy Buds3 or Buds3 Pro headphones, users can activate Google Gemini by voice or by long-pressing either earbud.

The overlay is optimized for various Galaxy device formats and offers personalized suggestions based on the specific user’s usage. The goal is to increase productivity and efficiency of daily tasks.

The One UI 8 system is based on Android 16, and while it’s clearly a fact that compared to One UI 7, it’s more of a mild evolution than a revolution, it should still provide users with a slightly better experience. That is, if all optimizations are successful and no problems occur on some models.

One UI 8 Watch for Smartwatches

Samsung also announced the expansion of One UI 8 Watch to other Galaxy Watch smartwatch models later this year. It is currently only available for the latest Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch8, but older generations will also receive it soon.

The new watch version brings motivational health features and a redesigned user interface that is intended to be more intuitive and better adapted to the smaller display of the wearable device.

How excited are you for One UI 8?
