Samsung failed to keep Galaxy Buds On open earbuds under wraps. Official images leaked

Samsung is preparing to enter the open earbuds market, which leaves the ear canal free, so you can still hear what’s happening around you while running or traveling through a busy city. After leaked illustrations from an app, images of Galaxy Buds On have now appeared online, which apparently come from marketing materials – and for the first time, you can see how the earbuds will actually sit on the ear.

The pair of images was published by Android Headlines. In addition to the design, the name is also definitively confirmed: according to the server, the earbuds will not be called Galaxy Able, as was rumored in the spring, but Galaxy Buds On.

From the photos, it is clear that the earbud clips onto the ear from two sides. The wider part with the speaker will go inside the ear towards the opening of the ear canal, the narrower part will rest on the outer earlobe, and the two halves will be connected by a curved arch. An opening for a microphone is also visible on the earbud’s body, so it will be possible to make calls with them.

Samsung would not be the first among major manufacturers with this design. Xiaomi introduced its own clip-on earbuds Xiaomi Clip in China this May; similar models are also offered by Bose, Huawei, and Anker Soundcore.

What will the earbuds be capable of?

Sound will reportedly be transmitted to the ear not by bone conduction, but by air – the transducer will direct it towards the edges of the ear canal without blocking it. The price for the open design is clear: don’t expect active noise cancellation, and according to previous leaks, 360 Audio spatial sound is also missing.

They will reportedly be controllable by head movements – nodding or shaking your head will trigger pre-defined actions, though exactly which ones is not yet clear. The Auto Volume feature is supposed to automatically increase volume in noisy environments, the earbuds will reportedly summon both Gemini and Bixby assistants, and when you fall asleep, they will automatically pause playback.

When will Galaxy Buds On be unveiled?

No one has confirmed the exact date yet, but it might not be long. The earbuds, designated SM-U600, passed certification by the US FCC on September 15, which is usually one of the last steps before market launch. Samsung has not yet revealed the price, and whether and for how much the earbuds will arrive in the Czech Republic is also unclear.
