Although Google Gemini currently reigns supreme on most Samsung Galaxy flagship phones, the South Korean tech giant apparently plans to offer its customers more choice in the future. The company is actively negotiating with competing artificial intelligence providers, especially Perplexity AI and OpenAI, to integrate their services into the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. This information was confirmed directly by the President and COO of Samsung’s MX Division.

Samsung confirms: More AI assistants on the horizon

Choi Won-Joon, who heads Samsung’s mobile division, openly admitted in an interview with Bloomberg that the company is negotiating with several artificial intelligence providers (as reported by Android Police). “We are talking to multiple providers, including OpenAI with their ChatGPT and Perplexity,” Won-Joon stated. He also added that Samsung is “open to any AI assistant” if it can offer competitive services and the best user experiences.

Although the Samsung representative did not confirm whether a definitive decision has been made, according to a June Bloomberg report, the company was very close to reaching a deal with Perplexity. However, this would not be the first mention of cooperation between these two companies – reports from previous months already hinted at the possible integration of Perplexity services into Samsung phones, even though talks were only in the initial stages at that time.

What will happen to Bixby AI?

An interesting question remains as to the fate of Samsung’s own voice assistant Bixby, which recently underwent significant modernization, including the implementation of its own large language model (LLM). If Samsung decides to integrate one or more external AI assistants, it could mean a further weakening of Bixby’s position on Galaxy phones.

Apparently, Samsung is considering a strategy that could involve integrating multiple AI assistants simultaneously, which would give users the option to choose according to individual preferences. Gemini would therefore not be completely replaced, but it would likely be up to each user to choose which assistant suits them better.

Considering new processors

The Bloomberg report also reveals that Samsung is still hesitating between two processor variants for its upcoming flagship series. Both its own Exynos 2600 chipset and the upcoming flagship processor from Qualcomm (most likely Snapdragon 8 Elite 2) are being considered.

The first details about the new South Korean chipset were revealed a few days ago, as it appeared in the Geekbench platform database. We brought you more details in a separate article.
