Speculation about expanding the flagship Galaxy S series with a Pro model is nothing new. It first appeared months before the launch of the current Galaxy S26 generation, when there was talk of replacing the Plus model with a thin Edge version and swapping the base model for a Pro model. However, as time went on, it became clear that Samsung would stick with the proven trio. Now, these rumors are returning – this time in connection with the next generation Galaxy S27.

Four models instead of three?

According to the South Korean server ETNews, Samsung is planning four models for the Galaxy S27 series: Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra. The Pro model should offer some key features from the Ultra, but without the S Pen stylus, which will remain exclusive to the top-tier model.

Among the features the Pro could adopt from the Ultra are the Privacy Display debuting this year with the Galaxy S26 Ultra or the 200Mpx main camera. The space that would otherwise be occupied by the stylus could be used by Samsung for a larger battery or improved camera hardware.

Lessons from the Edge’s failure

Samsung has mixed experiences with expanding the Galaxy S series. Last year’s attempt at a fourth model in the form of the extremely thin Galaxy S25 Edge ended in a fiasco – the phone did not sell well, and the company abandoned the concept of thin phones. The Pro model should be a different case – it’s not an experiment with format, but about making premium features accessible to a wider range of customers.

A four-model strategy would allow Samsung to better compete with Apple, which currently offers the iPhone in a base configuration and Air, Pro, and Pro Max versions. Many fans of South Korean phones have long wished for a phone with Ultra-level cameras, but in a more compact body and without the S Pen. The Galaxy S27 Pro could be an excellent answer.

Would you welcome a Pro model in Samsung’s lineup?
