Renowned leaker Ice Universe claims that the flagship Ultra series watch will feature a panel with a brightness of up to 5,000 nits – a value that even most top-tier smartphones don’t offer today.

How Bright Will the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Display Be?

The number was first published by Ice Universe on Weibo and highlighted by Android Authority. Today’s Galaxy Watch Ultra can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, while the new generation is expected to handle a full 5,000 – roughly two thousand more.

For context: most current flagship phones, which hover around 2,000 to 3,000 nits, don’t reach such a benchmark. In practice, this would mean you could see the watch face even in direct summer sunlight, when ordinary displays fade. However, let’s remember that this is a leaked figure, not from the manufacturer’s lab, so actual readability will only be revealed by tests. The appearance of the new generation was also hinted at by recent official-looking renders.

The renders revealed that the Ultra 2 will stick to the proven design – primarily featuring thinner bezels and a subtly redesigned bezel, otherwise the new model remains faithful to its predecessor.

What Will IP69K Resistance Bring?

The second new feature from the leak is said to be increased durability. The leaker mentions IP69K protection, which they describe as the highest tier on the IP scale. While today’s model is sufficient with IP68, IP69K additionally accounts for high-pressure hot water jets – protection aimed more at harsh operation and dirt than at diving. However, here too, the manufacturer has not yet confirmed anything.
