According to new information, the device will appear in Germany, France, Canada, and the United Kingdom during 2026. However, the specific date is not yet known. This is a gradual expansion of availability that Samsung has been planning for a long time. And for us in the Czech Republic? The situation is ambiguous, but there is some chance. Galaxy XR: Half the Price of Vision Pro, but Still a Problematic Segment Android XR and Gemini What Does This Mean for the Czech Republic? Does It Even Make Sense? Galaxy XR: Half the Price of Vision Pro, but Still a Problematic Segment Samsung introduced the Galaxy XR in October 2025 with a price of $1,800 (approximately 37,500 CZK without tax). This is roughly half of what Apple charges for the Vision Pro. On paper, it’s a logical choice for those who want to experience mixed reality without selling a kidney. In practice, however, the situation is more complicated. The headset offers micro-OLED displays with a resolution of 3,552 × 3,840 pixels per eye, totaling 27 megapixels – which is 4 million more than the Vision Pro. The field of view reaches 109° horizontally and 100° vertically, with a refresh rate of 72 Hz (can be switched to 60 or 90 Hz). Inside, it runs on Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, 16 GB RAM, and 256GB storage. The headset weighs 545 grams without the external battery pack (which adds another 302 grams). The battery lasts only 2 hours of normal use, and 2.5 hours when watching video. This is a problem shared by the Vision Pro – for longer work or entertainment, you simply have to be connected to a power source. Android XR and Gemini Android XR is a new platform built from the ground up with an emphasis on multimodal AI. Google has integrated its Gemini at a system level, so the assistant sees what you see, hears what you hear, and reacts according to context. In theory, it sounds great. In practice? Samsung showed during a presentation how to use the headset to find the best pizzeria nearby – through Gemini and 3D Google Maps. But the problem is that no normal person would put on a headset for this. Grab your phone, type in a query, and you have a result in a few seconds. Why would you put half a kilo of electronics on your head just for pizza? Much more interesting is the automatic spatialization of 2D videos. Android XR can convert any video from YouTube or other services into a 3D format with depth. Samsung also added the ability to watch up to four sports broadcasts simultaneously in YouTube’s spatial multi-view section. What Does This Mean for the Czech Republic? Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the availability of Galaxy XR in the Czech Republic. However, the fact that the headset is heading to Germany is good news. The German market often serves as a gateway for Central Europe – if a product sells there, it has a chance to reach us too. On the other hand, Samsung has historically taken a more cautious approach to new product categories in the Czech Republic; for example, it doesn’t even sell its laptops here. For a headset costing almost 40,000 CZK in a segment that doesn’t yet have a clearly defined target group, it is likely that Samsung will wait for results from larger markets. Realistic estimate? If the Galaxy XR sells well in Germany, France, and the UK (which is a big “if”), we could see it in the Czech Republic by late 2026 or early 2027. And that’s assuming Samsung even sees potential in our market. However, a more likely scenario is that early adopters will order the headset from Germany. Does It Even Make Sense? The Galaxy XR is not a bad headset. The hardware is solid, the displays are sharp, and the software has potential. The problem is that no one has yet managed to convince the masses that mixed reality is something they need. Apple couldn’t do it even with its premium-built Vision Pro, and Samsung probably won’t overcome it with a cheaper variant either. More interesting uses are emerging in the corporate sphere – virtual training, simulations, remote collaboration. There, the Galaxy XR has a greater chance of success than as a consumer product for everyday users. If you’re an early adopter who loves new technologies and enjoys experimenting, the Galaxy XR could be an interesting gadget. If you’re looking for a device that will change the way you work or play, you’d better wait for AI glasses or the next generation. Glasses – not heavy headsets – are, in my opinion, the future people are waiting for. Would you buy the Samsung Galaxy XR if it were sold in the Czech Republic?
