In October two years ago, Samsung launched a beta version of its Samsung Internet browser for Windows, but access was limited – only for users in South Korea and the USA, and you also needed a developer Samsung account. That has now changed. Anyone can download the browser from anywhere, without having to put in any extra effort.

Another browser in a crowded market

The web browser market is crowded. Google Chrome dominates, Microsoft Edge is the default choice in Windows, Firefox serves a minority of open-source advocates, and Opera with Vivaldi target power users. So why would anyone want Samsung Internet?

The answer is simple: if you already use Samsung Internet on Android (whether on a Galaxy or another phone), installing the PC version makes sense due to synchronization. Browsing history, bookmarks, and other data are shared between your phone and computer, just like with Chrome or Edge.

What Samsung Internet offers

Samsung Internet for Windows is not just another Chrome copy (although it uses the same Chromium engine under the hood). It brings several specific features that set it apart:

  • Galaxy AI integration: summarization and translation of web pages directly in the browser, without the need for additional extensions
  • Samsung Pass: a password manager synchronized across devices, an alternative to Google Password Manager or 1Password
  • Built-in adblocker: filters ads without the need to install extensions like uBlock Origin
  • Continue browsing: you can easily transfer open pages from your phone to your PC and vice versa

Still beta, but close to a stable version

Samsung Internet for Windows is still labeled as a beta version, which means you might encounter minor bugs or instability. However, wider availability suggests that Samsung is preparing for a stable release – otherwise, there would be no point in opening access to all users.

Although the official website still claims that the browser is only available in Korea and the USA, the Download button works from anywhere in the world; I tried it myself, although for some reason I couldn’t launch the browser after installation. However, this is likely a specific issue, as users are posting their first impressions online.

Who it makes sense for

Samsung Internet for Windows is not for everyone. If you are happy with Chrome, Edge, or Firefox and don’t use a Samsung phone, you have no reason to switch. It mainly makes sense for:

  • Users of Samsung Internet on Android who want to maintain consistency across devices
  • People who use Samsung Pass and want to have passwords synchronized on PC as well
  • Those who appreciate the built-in adblocker and AI features without installing extensions
  • Fans of the Samsung ecosystem who prefer solutions from a single manufacturer

For the average user who doesn’t have a Samsung phone and relies on the Google ecosystem, Chrome will remain the better choice. Similarly, owners of Windows PCs with Microsoft service integration will likely stick with Edge.

Do you use Samsung Internet on Android? Will you try the Windows version?
