Samsung leaked images of upcoming bestseller. It will offer a faster chip and a slightly more modern design

Android Headlines brings an exclusive look at Samsung’s upcoming lower mid-range smartphone. The Galaxy A17 model is presented in first, allegedly official renders and is well on its way to becoming one of the brand’s best-selling models. The new device is said to arrive with a price under $200 (in the Czech Republic, however, it will likely cost around 5–6 thousand CZK at launch) and will offer a few interesting improvements over the current model.

Design changes are striking at first glance

The biggest novelty of the Galaxy A17 is the redesigned look of the rear camera. Samsung decided to implement a new camera module style, which we have already seen on the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 models. The vertical module with a black background looks very elegant and gives the phone a more premium appearance. However, the front retains some typical elements of the budget segment – the phone still boasts a teardrop notch for the selfie camera and a rather prominent chin.

From my point of view, these are precisely the design flaws that Samsung could get rid of after years. I held the same opinion even before the launch of the Galaxy A16, as I already didn’t understand why the company kept returning to them. So, allow me to express my disappointment that the upcoming model will not be any better in this regard.

Similar specifications with a better processor

According to preliminary information, not much will change inside the phone. The Galaxy A17 will likely retain its 6.7″ AMOLED display, and the dimensions remain identical to its predecessor – 164.4 × 77.9 × 7.9 mm. The main camera will offer a 50Mpx sensor, complemented by a 5Mpx ultrawide lens and a 2Mpx macro camera. Power will be provided by a 5,000mAh battery supporting 25W charging.

The most significant improvement will be the deployment of the more powerful Exynos 1380 processor, which will replace last year’s Exynos 1330. Although it is not the newest chipset in Samsung’s portfolio (it was introduced more than two years ago), it will bring a noticeable performance increase compared to its predecessor.

When can we expect the launch?

Samsung should introduce the Galaxy A17 around the same time as last year’s model – approximately in October this year. Most likely, it will also come to the Czech market, where, following its predecessor, it could be sold in LTE and 5G versions (the former would, of course, be slightly cheaper).

What does the current Galaxy A16 offer?

If you don’t want to wait for the new model, you can opt for the currently available Galaxy A16 5G. It features a 6.7″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Performance is handled by the Samsung Exynos 1330 processor, complemented by 4 GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded with a memory card.

The photographic equipment consists of a trio of lenses – a 50Mpx main sensor (f/1.8), a 5Mpx wide-angle lens, and a 2Mpx macro camera. The front selfie camera offers a resolution of 13 Mpx. Endurance is ensured by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The phone runs on Android 14 with the One UI overlay and enjoys long software support.
