Samsung has Galaxy Unpacked scheduled for July 22, but even this year, it couldn’t keep its own surprises under wraps. A week before the event, the complete parameters of both large foldables leaked to the public. A number of marketing images also became public.

How does the Galaxy Z Fold8 differ from the Ultra model?

This year, the large foldables will be split into two, and the naming is immediately complicated. The direct successor to last year’s Fold7 is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, while the base Fold8 is supposed to be an entirely new, wider device. We discussed this already at the beginning of June, when the manufacturer surprisingly shuffled the names of the entire series.

The parameters were published by the renowned leaker Roland Quandt on WinFuture. The differences between both models are summarized in the following table.

Base Fold8 will not get a telephoto lens

The most significant concession concerns the camera. According to the leak, the base model will only shoot with two lenses: a fifty-megapixel main lens with optical stabilization and an equally sharp ultrawide lens. The telephoto lens with 3x zoom, which last year’s Fold7 offered, will not be found on it.

The main sensor will also be reduced. While the Fold7 shot with a two-hundred-megapixel chip, its cheaper sibling this year will drop to 50 Mpx. The Ultra model, on the other hand, will retain its 200Mpx main camera and 3x zoom, and its ultrawide camera is expected to grow from 12 to 50 Mpx.

The rest of the features will be shared equally by both foldables. They will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy clocked up to 4.47 GHz, complemented by 12 GB of LPDDR5X memory (16 GB for the terabyte version), and charging is expected to handle 45 W wired and wirelessly. According to the leak, both devices are certified for 1,200 charging cycles and IP48 durability, meaning protection against dust and water.

The dimension comparison is interesting. The Ultra will be thinner when unfolded (4.1 mm) than the base Fold8 (4.5 mm), but it will pay for it in weight: 218 grams versus 201. The data is without the camera bump. According to the European EPREL database, where manufacturers report consumption, the Fold8 will last approximately 49 hours on a single charge, and the Ultra two hours longer.

How much will the foldables cost?

The base Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to start at 1,999 euros, which translates to approximately 48,000 Czech crowns. For the Ultra model, Samsung is reportedly asking for 2,199 euros, which corresponds to about 53,000 Czech crowns. In terms of colors, the base model will get a combination of Graphite, Cream, Lavender, and Pistachio, while the Ultra will come in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and Green Shadow.

We wrote about this year’s generation getting more expensive at the beginning of the month. The Ultra is one hundred euros more expensive than last year’s Fold7, and for higher-capacity versions, the difference increases up to 280 euros. According to previous leaks, the price increases are due to rising memory and storage prices, which most manufacturers are complaining about.

The amounts listed are conversions from euros at the current exchange rate. Official Czech prices are not yet known, and the manufacturer will publish them at the earliest during the event itself on July 22.

Will you prefer the cheaper Fold8, or will you pay extra for the Ultra with a telephoto lens?
