Samsung's smart glasses may offer a display. New findings about their battery suggest this.

Last autumn, Samsung introduced its Galaxy XR headset built on the Android XR platform, thus entering the world of augmented reality. However, the $1,800 device was just the first step. During this year’s MWC in Barcelona, Jay Kim, Executive Vice President of the mobile division, unveiled plans for smart glasses that will function as “eyes” connected to a Galaxy phone. Now, thanks to SamMobile, we are learning more specific details about what awaits us.

Battery suggests the presence of a display

According to information from SamMobile, Samsung’s smart glasses will be called Galaxy Glasses (model number EB-O200). They will be powered by a 245mAh battery with the designation EB-BO200CAY. This capacity is almost identical to Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, which have a 248mAh battery and last for approximately 6 hours of operation.

The battery size itself is an important clue. Ray-Ban versions without a display have a battery of around 150 mAh, while the display variant needs almost double that. If Samsung has chosen a similar capacity, it suggests that Galaxy Glasses could have a built-in display – even though Jay Kim at MWC hinted that the first generation might not have a display.

12Mpx camera and touch control

Earlier leaks and official statements from Samsung confirm that the glasses will be equipped with an eye-level camera. According to available information, it should be a 12Mpx Sony IMX681 sensor. The image will be transmitted in real-time to a connected Galaxy phone, where it will be processed using artificial intelligence.

In addition to the camera, the glasses are expected to include microphones, speakers, and a touch-sensitive area on the temple for control. The system will run on the Android XR platform with an integrated Google Gemini assistant for AI features. A variant with sunglasses will also be available.

Fashionable design thanks to collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker

Samsung has previously confirmed collaboration with fashion brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, which are involved in the design of the glasses. This suggests that the result is not intended to look like a technological experiment, but rather a stylish fashion accessory. Galaxy Glasses should be available in several color variants and styles.

When exactly Samsung will unveil the glasses and how much they will cost is not yet known. Jay Kim stated during MWC that the company wants to have “something for the industry this year.” The same timeframe was confirmed by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, whose company supplies the chip platform.

If Samsung truly hits this year’s target, Galaxy Glasses could shake up the market, currently dominated by Meta’s glasses. Of course, the question remains how successful the first generation of the product will be. The sale of the triple-folding Galaxy Z TriFold, which represented a similarly experimental project, but in the smartphone field, was withdrawn from sale three months after its launch.
