A curved ultrawide monitor is one of those things you can’t imagine until you have it – and then you usually wouldn’t go back to a classic 16:9 panel. The 34″ Samsung Odyssey G5 has reached 5,280 CZK via Heureka, which is a price for which you can barely get a decent 27″ QHD monitor with similar specifications.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you want a wide area for gaming, video editing, or side-by-side spreadsheets in Excel.
⚠️ Consider if you need accurate colors for graphic design – a VA panel is not IPS, and color coverage is not top-tier.
💡 For 5,280 CZK, you’re getting one of the best price/performance ratios on the market among ultrawide monitors.

Why go ultrawide

A 34-inch diagonal with a resolution of 3440 × 1440 and an aspect ratio of 21:9 practically means you have about a third more width side-by-side than on a classic 27″ QHD monitor. In spreadsheets, you see more columns; in Premiere or Resolve, you have a larger timeline; in Photoshop, you can afford to have tools side-by-side and still see the image. For work, 21:9 is a benefit that compensates for the price with a difference in productivity. The aggressive 1000R curvature – the most sold on the market today – also fills peripheral vision so that when sitting in the middle, you truly have the screen “around you”.

For gamers, key features are the 165 Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium support, and HDR10. In shooters, you’ll immediately feel the difference between 60 and 165 Hz; in strategies or simulators, it becomes an experience. The VA panel with a 2500:1 contrast ratio makes dark scenes truly dark – for night gaming, this means a significantly better atmosphere than with an IPS panel. Connectivity is via HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, plus a 3.5mm jack for headphones.

Where you can see it’s a budget monitor

Main criticism from reviews: the stand is not ideal. It’s not height-adjustable, only allows for a slight tilt, and according to users, the monitor wobbles slightly when the table is bumped. For most seated users with a standard desk height, the default position is suitable, but if you are over 190 cm tall or have a taller desk, expect to invest in a 75 × 75 mm VESA mount (note, it’s not the standard 100 × 100, so you’ll need to buy an adapter).

Second realistic point: 250 cd/m² brightness is weak today, and HDR10 support is therefore more of a formality. It’s sufficient for a dark or dimmed room; in a brightly lit office, you’ll want to draw the blinds. The specification of 1 ms response time (MPRT) is a marketing value – the real GtG response time for VA panels is closer to 4–5 ms, so in dark scenes of some games, you might see slight ghosting. For competitive e-sport professionals, this would be an issue, but for 95% of gamers, the result is perfectly fine.

Do you prefer one large ultrawide, or rather two classic monitors side-by-side?
