If you’ve ever envied owners of Philips TVs with Ambilight technology, we have good news. Yeelight just unveiled the TV Universe app at IFA 2025, bringing a similar effect to Samsung TVs. And the best part? It’s completely free.

The app synchronizes compatible Yeelight smart lighting with any on-screen content. It works with products like Cube Kit, Beam Light Bar, Obsid Light Strip, or Cube Lite. If you already have some of these lights at home, just download the app from Samsung Smart Hub and you can get started.

No camera, no sync box

Most current solutions for synchronizing lighting with a TV have their drawbacks. Camera-based systems like Govee Envisual TV Backlight T2 are great, but you need to have a camera placed on top of the TV.

Yeelight solves this with LightEcho technology, which runs directly on the TV. The app can thus synchronize colors with anything that appears on the screen – whether it’s Netflix, YouTube, or a game from a console. And because it doesn’t use a camera, it should react more precisely and without delay.

The main trump card? Zero price

The principle is similar to Philips’ Hue Sync TV app, but that will cost you either a monthly subscription of 3 dollars, or a one-time payment of 130 dollars. And that doesn’t include the price of the Hue Bridge hub, which is necessary for operation. Yeelight TV Universe is supposed to be completely free for Samsung TV owners.

The only catch? The app only works on newer Samsung models – specifically on 2025 Neo QLED, Micro LED, OLED, and most QLED TVs (except for the Q6F model).

Is it worth it?

For owners of compatible Samsung TVs and Yeelight lights, it’s a clear choice – an extra feature for free. If you don’t have the lights yet, it depends on your priorities. The basic Obsid LED strip costs roughly a thousand crowns, while Beam light bars are more expensive. Still, it’s significantly cheaper than the Philips Hue ecosystem.

Will you buy a Yeelight strip for your Samsung TV?
