Sony has just dusted off one of the most successful models in its history. The proven WH-1000XM4 headphones are returning to sale after years as Sony WH-1000XM4C – and are already in stock in Czechia for 6,299 CZK.

Popular 2020 model returns

The name itself reveals the basis. This is not a brand new design, but a return of the WH-1000XM4 model from 2020, which for years was at the top of the best headphones rankings before the manufacturer withdrew it from sale. The new version maintains practically the same appearance and folding joints, with only a lavender purple color added alongside black and platinum silver.

Inside, the same QN1 processor beats, and the headphones have only four microphones for noise cancellation, just like six years ago. Newer models in the series have since moved on – the WH-1000XM5 had eight microphones, last year’s WH-1000XM6 have twelve, plus a newer QN3 chip.

What has changed compared to WH-1000XM4?

The changes mainly concern software and connectivity. The headphones now support Bluetooth 6.0 instead of the 5.x version and offer a ten-band equalizer (the previous model had a five-band one) and a gaming preset in the app. The manufacturer has also adjusted the sound tuning to match current trends. The 40mm drivers, Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification, DSEE Extreme technology, and 360 Reality Audio support remain.

However, one figure surprisingly went in the opposite direction. Battery life with noise cancellation enabled dropped to 27 hours, while the original WH-1000XM4 managed around thirty. Without ANC, the headphones last up to 34 hours according to Sony, and fast charging remains quick – three minutes on the charger is enough for an hour of listening.
