Chinese manufacturer TCL has unveiled the complete specifications of its new flagship TV series, the QM9K, which is the first on the market to offer integrated Google Gemini support and a smart presence sensor. The TVs will arrive on the US market later this month.

Google Gemini and Smart Presence Sensor

The main innovation of the QM9K series is the integration of Google Gemini artificial intelligence, which replaces the existing Google Assistant. According to TCL, this makes it the first TV with this advanced AI on board. Gemini offers more natural conversational control and can answer more complex queries than its predecessor. Activation remains the same using the commands “Hey Google” or “OK Google”.

Another interesting feature is the built-in mmWave sensor, which can detect the movement of people in the room. The TV automatically turns on to screensaver mode when someone enters the room and turns off when the room is vacated. TCL allows for precise adjustment of the detection radius, so the TV doesn’t react to mere passers-by, but only when you genuinely plan to watch.

Top-tier Picture Technology

QM9K TVs utilize a QD-Mini LED panel with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels and a native 144Hz refresh rate. TCL has implemented its Halo Control System, which includes up to 6,000 local dimming zones for precise backlight control. Maximum brightness reaches 5,000 nits, representing a 30% increase compared to the previous generation.

The CrystGlow WHVA panel ensures wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. The ZeroBorder design minimizes bezels around the screen for maximum immersion in content. The TVs support HDR formats Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and HLG.

Features and Connectivity

As usual, the sound is handled by an audio system tuned by Bang & Olufsen. For connecting external devices, there are four HDMI ports, one of which supports eARC for connecting a soundbar. The package includes a voice remote with backlighting, which facilitates control in the dark.

The Google TV system provides access to all popular streaming services and applications. Thanks to powerful hardware, the TVs can handle gaming mode with minimal latency for next-generation consoles.

Available Sizes and Market Launch

The TCL QM9K will be available in four screen sizes: 65 inches, 75 inches, 85 inches, and 98 inches. All sizes share the same technical parameters, including the panel, refresh rate, and features.

Sales will begin later this month at the American retailer Best Buy. TCL has not yet announced prices, but given the premium features, a higher price point than conventional Mini LED TVs can be expected. Information regarding a potential European market launch is not yet available.
