Samsung finally showed what it’s working on. This morning we informed you that the South Korean giant might introduce its first tri-fold phone this week, which happened halfway. At the K-Tech Showcase technology event in South Korea, the company exhibited a prototype of its foldable phone with two hinges, which can transform the display from 6.5 inches to a full 10 inches. The device had no official name, was behind glass, and no one could hold it. Nevertheless, it is the first public demonstration of what Samsung is preparing as a response to the Chinese Huawei Mate XT.

Two Hinges, One Giant Display

Photos from Korean media show the phone in both folded and unfolded states. When folded, it has a 6.5-inch diagonal, which corresponds to a regular smartphone – so one-handed operation is not a problem, just like with the current Fold 7. If you unfold both hinges, you get a 10-inch tablet display.

Samsung chose a G-shaped design – both hinges fold inwards, so the display is protected when the phone is folded. This is a difference compared to the Huawei Mate XT, which uses one hinge inwards and the other outwards (S-shape).

Leaked images also show a camera cutout in the top center and relatively thicker bezels around the display. The back will be divided into three panels – the left one will house a triple camera setup, the middle panel is expected to have an external display and a selfie camera.

Specifications and Availability

Samsung has not yet released official specifications, but leaks suggest that the phone will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a triple camera, and a weight of around 298 grams. This is slightly more than current foldables, but given that it has two hinges and a larger display, it is logical.

According to speculation, the price will be around 2,800 dollars, which is roughly 60 thousand CZK. In our country, such a device would cost even more after tax. But that’s not the main problem – Samsung according to sources plans to produce only 50 thousand units during the initial production run. The phone is expected to be sold only in China, South Korea, the USA, and the United Arab Emirates. Europe will therefore likely remain out of the game.

When will it be officially unveiled?

Samsung has not yet officially named the phone or confirmed its release date. According to leaks, it should be unveiled on October 31st or November 1st, which is in a few days. The fact that the company exhibited a prototype at a public event suggests that an announcement is close.

Working names like Galaxy Z TriFold or Galaxy G Fold are circulating among leakers, but the final name is not yet confirmed. Samsung will likely wait for the official presentation to reveal all the details.

Would you buy a tri-fold from Samsung?
