The Samsung UE98DU9072 entered the Czech market in June 2024 with a price tag of 99,990 CZK. It gradually dropped to half, and today you can buy it for 37,990 CZK on Allegro, or 39,990 CZK on Alza. A price drop of over 60 thousand crowns in a single year makes this model an attraction for anyone who wants a huge television for minimal money.

98 inches: home cinema in the living room

A diagonal of 98 inches (249 cm) corresponds to a projection screen in a smaller cinema. When watching sports or action movies, it’s a completely different experience than on regular 65″ or 75″ televisions. Thanks to 4K resolution, the image is sufficiently fine even on such a large panel, although up close, it’s visible that it’s classic LED backlighting without local dimming.

The panel has a refresh rate of 100/120 Hz, so it can handle fast scenes and is suitable for gaming. It supports HDR10 and HDR10+ standards, allowing it to extract decent contrast and color dynamics from HDR sources, although black levels and image depth don’t compare to OLED.

Gaming features and response

Samsung also specifically targets gamers. The TV handles 4K at 120 Hz via HDMI 2.1, with support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), AMD FreeSync, and ALLM mode, which automatically sets low latency. The Motion Xcelerator feature ensures smooth motion display, and the Game Bar allows tuning settings according to the game genre.

The aspect ratio can be switched to 21:9 or 32:9, which will be especially appreciated by racing game players. So, if you are looking for an alternative to a projector, this is one of the cheapest ways to enjoy an almost hundred-inch gaming experience.

Sound and soundbar connection

Despite its large dimensions, the sound from the internal speakers is rather average. However, Samsung offers the Q-Symphony feature, which can synchronize the TV’s sound with a compatible soundbar to create a much better spatial effect. The Adaptive Sound mode then adjusts the sound according to the scene – it enhances dialogues or, conversely, boosts effects.

Smart features and ecosystem

The Tizen operating system offers all essential applications including Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and SkyShowtime. It also features SmartThings integration, the ability to control other devices in the home, and Matter protocol support. For more demanding users, multi-window functions are also a bonus – for example, watching sports with parallel display of statistics from a phone.

Samsung Knox Security ensures security, and the remote control is rechargeable via solar power and artificial lighting, eliminating the need to change batteries.

Picture quality compromise

The Samsung UE98DU9072 belongs to the so-called Crystal UHD series, meaning it’s among the basic models. This implies that the panel uses classic LED backlighting without local dimming. In practice, blacks appear rather gray, and HDR scenes lack dramatic impact. If you were to invest the same amount in a smaller model, you would get significantly better picture quality.

Dimensions and practicality

When choosing, physical parameters must also be considered. The TV’s width is 218 cm, height with stand 130 cm, depth 40 cm, and weight over 51 kg. It is certainly not intended for every living room – you will need enough wall space.

Conclusion

The Samsung UE98DU9072 is the cheapest way to get a giant TV on the Czech market. For 38 thousand crowns, you get an almost hundred-inch panel with 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, solid gaming features, and a complete smart environment. It’s suitable for sports fans, gamers, or families who want a piece of cinema at home.

However, it’s necessary to account for a compromise – it’s a Crystal UHD with classic LED backlighting. If you are looking for top-notch picture quality and not just chasing the largest possible diagonal, smaller OLED or MiniLED models at the same price will serve you better. Otherwise, in terms of “inches per crown,” you’ll hardly find any competition.
